“Ideal for veggies walking Ben Lawers hills with a dog”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We wanted somewhere handy for the hills so we could get an early start given the short winter days - and accepted dogs. This fitted the bill and with some style... an attractive, modern take on a traditional roadside inn. Our room was very cosy, overlooked Loch Tay and - quite unexpected in rural Scotland - the hotel does a great vegetarian breakfast. We found the staff businesslike rather than especially friendly but that hardly matters in this obviously well-run place.

“What a find!”

We used Tripadvisor to find this little hotel. It's location is simply stunning. The drive to it is beautiful, the views early evening outstanding. We were greeted by Lydia who was the receptionist, bar maid and waitress. She was fantastic and made the whole experince enjoyable. We had booked dinner, bed and breakfast. I wish we had not as we could not finish the food, the portions huge. The food was, however, excellent. One course was too much, we never managed three. The real ale was brilliant, as was the selection of drinks. We had room 1 which was very clean and had a bath. The decore is very tired, but this somehow added to the charm and cosyness. Breakfast was superb, served again by Lydia with her usual charm and service.

“Lovely Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

What a lovely, welcoming & homely place, from the roaring fires, friendly staff, excellent location for Mountain walkers, amazing views & relaxing retreat.
We booked in for one night as we had walked Ben Lomond and wanted a relaxing night before walking Ben Lawers the following day. We had a few drinks in the bar after a very long & tiring day it was nice to relax by the fire and chat to the very friendly staff. The room was warm, cosy and clean. The meal was fantastic, very good value for money make sure you bring your appetite. Just what you need after a long day of travelling & walking to build up an appetite! We would recommend and definitely look forward to staying again next year.

“A thoroughly relaxing break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

My wife and I are just back home having spent a night away at this hotel.
Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room. We were in room 1, which is very comfortable and has a nice view over Loch Tay. Although there were a few minor wear and tear marks in the room, it was impeccibly clean, welcoming and cosy. The bed was comfortable, the shower hot and the tea/coffee facilities came with a nice selection of items including shortbread! There was also a selection of soaps/gels/shampoo in the bathroom.
After booking a table in the restaurant upon arrival, we went down to the bar for a glass of wine feeling ravenous and looking forward to enjoying some food. As mentioned by other reviewers, the food was really superb value. Incredibly large portions and everything tasty with a varied selection. We recommend the chicken with haggis stuffing and black pudding - we would have loved to see the size of the chicken that was used to provide this meal, it must have been enormous! Having ordered 3 courses we struggled on and got to the sticky toffee pudding which my wife says was as good as her mother makes, some compliment I must say! The next morning, after a goods night sleep, we waddled down to breakfast for more of the excellent food. Again there was a varied selection, even smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for those in the mood!
In summary, the Ben Lawers hotel is manned by amazingly friendly, helpful and efficient staff. The food is some of the best we have eaten for the money, the rooms are comfortable and the location fantastic. All in all, this is one of the best value Hotels we have ever stayed in. Im not normally a person who writes reviews on trip advisor, as they would more often than not be negative, however, The Ben Lawers Hotel has restored my faith - there are still some cracking little hotels out there, and this is one of them!

Room Tip: Room 1 recommended for couples!

“A Homely Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

A last minute booking following a day in the hills. Ideal location and hotel for hill walkers.
The room was warm and comfortable with good facilities.
The bar and restaurant area was very welcoming and a good place to relax and enjoy a meal.
We both enjoyed our food both in the evening and for breakfast the following morning. Yes the portions were on the large side and I didn't feel like dessert. Service was very friendly.
