We booked in here and struck lucky to be told that the main rooms were all occupied and we were put into the Hopper Suite on the top floor. Oh yah beauty. This suite is shared with some of the workings of the mill. And a 4 poster bed. We did plan to head into Stromness for a meal, but decided on a fish and chips carry out so we could soak up the atmosphere here. I love Orkney and have yet to have a disappointing experience there, and this place just served to reinforce all my positive experiences. The wooden beams and workings in the room gave it a beautifully warm atmosphere. I hang my head in shame to admit this wasn't my first choice - it wil be next time.
Breakfast was in a small'ish room with all the residents gathered around a large table. I've eaten this way a few times and find it sociable and leads to a lot of chat and sharing of ideas and experiences. i can see some people being uncomfotrable with it, but we got on fine with the other residents.
It's not the best placed of b&b's, but it's orkney, it doesn't matter where you are, nothings very far away anyway, so location can't be crticised. And it's on Orkney, which is a plus anyway. .
