“Nice place, we got lucky”

We booked in here and struck lucky to be told that the main rooms were all occupied and we were put into the Hopper Suite on the top floor. Oh yah beauty. This suite is shared with some of the workings of the mill. And a 4 poster bed. We did plan to head into Stromness for a meal, but decided on a fish and chips carry out so we could soak up the atmosphere here. I love Orkney and have yet to have a disappointing experience there, and this place just served to reinforce all my positive experiences. The wooden beams and workings in the room gave it a beautifully warm atmosphere. I hang my head in shame to admit this wasn't my first choice - it wil be next time.
Breakfast was in a small'ish room with all the residents gathered around a large table. I've eaten this way a few times and find it sociable and leads to a lot of chat and sharing of ideas and experiences. i can see some people being uncomfotrable with it, but we got on fine with the other residents.
It's not the best placed of b&b's, but it's orkney, it doesn't matter where you are, nothings very far away anyway, so location can't be crticised. And it's on Orkney, which is a plus anyway. .

Room Tip: Try for the Hopper Suite, i understand the other rrooms are a bit small. haven't seen them thou...

“Great accommodation in the Orkney Islands”

I spent three very interesting days in the Orkney Isands. You can't do better than to stay at the MIll of Eyreland, near Stennes. It is a large, comfortable, converted mill, good sized rooms with lots of antiques. A charming property run by a lovely, helpful and interesting lady named Morag. She wil tell you down to earth stories about the history of the mill and area, and feed you huge breakfasts. The property is ideally located for visits all over the area.

We stayed for two nights at the Mill of Eyrland - and it was a wonderful time. We had a warm welcome although we arrived late and the family room right under the roof was perfect. The atmosphere is charming and we a had a great breakfast (fruit and plenty of joghurt!). We felt right at home and if we will come to Orkney again - there is no doubt - we'll choose the Mill of Eyrland!!

“Very comfortable and homely place to stay - recommended!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

Stayed 2 nights at the end of August 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed our room (the Mill Burn) and the Mill itself. Very historic building beautifully restored and full of cosy nooks and crannies. The bourbon biscuits in the room was a nice touch after a rainy day, and the breakfast spread was excellent (although you can skip the sausages - not great!). Would stay again - recommended for comfort.

“Pefect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

This is a Bed and Breakfast with lots of character. You will feel welcomed and at home staying with Morag. The Mill is in a beautiful countryside setting yet close to many sites you will want to visit. The breakfast room and the breakfast was as good as it gets. It would be hard to find a better situation on the Orkney Islands.
