“Excellent Hotel could not fault in any way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2010

I stayed in this hotel for a week everything was excellent the service from the staff, the rooms everything was perfect. We were booked in for Bed, Breakfast and Evening meal the choice at each sitting was fantastic and everything was served piping hot. I could not find anything to complain about in this Hotel and would definitely stay there again.

“A tired and overpriced relic of days gone by”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

Take a step back in time: if you’re into faded decor, extremely cheap Xmas decorations, and tired tartan carpets then this is just the place for you! At £75 per night this is significantly overpriced for the standard of accommodation offered. A poky little room, with worn furniture, and a mattress that had definitely seen better days. The tiny en-suite bathroom in 1970’s avocado was the low-light. The dribbling shower was pathetic – so much so it was effectively useless – and unless you are either a midget or a contortionist then the half-sized bath wasn’t much use either. Naturally the extractor fan wasn’t working - in fairness as is the case in most British hotels - but fortunately the heating was in good order which is an important factor in this neck of the woods. The staff were friendly which was a plus. Breakfast was a pretty meagre affair however with tea served in a cheap stainless steel pot – thoroughly in keeping with the rest of the exeprience. I had to stay here as I was on business and the Brisbane House Hotel (up the road) was unfortunately full. I would never choose to stay somewhere like this of my own free will – truly one to avoid! Next time I'll ask for a B&B!!

“A cosy, comfortable hotel, with good food, friendship and attentive enthusiastic staff”

Stayed here on a David Urquhart five day coach tour.It was a lovely break in a clean, caring, comfortable hotel. The meals were very adequate and varied, and the staff were fast and efficient, attending to all our needs. The room we had was very clean with sufficient storage space and beds were comfy. All the hotel staff were friendly and jolly and this made for a good atmosphere in the hotel .A special mention of Leanne who always was so chirpy and whose jolly banter woke us all up at breakfast. Is she in line for promotion ?This was a very good break and I recommend this hotel to my fellow travellers .If you enjoy your stay as much as I did you will be well satisfied.

“Unless a regular "forget it"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

Stayed for 2 nights and 3 days (that's a laugh) we were chucked out at 9am in the morning, breakfast was 8.15 so we had to be up packed washed and dressed for 8am as the breakfast was 15min later. Shocking I have never been turfed out of a hotel so early before anywhere in the world.

The room was fine and adequate, clean all be it a dated. There was blankets on the bed which I couldn't believe were still in use as most hotels have duvets.

Mealtimes was a complete shock as they had all the "tour people" sitting together I had a panic attack at the thought of sitting with 6 other diners that I and my other half had never met, (far too intimate) and not necessary as they had adequate tables.

There were people that were not on the Urquart tour and they were seated seperately with a much superior breakfast and dinner menu, they were fawned over leaving us feeling like the second class.

On the Saturday night a lot of locals arrived dressed to the nines for the dinner dance. The band if you like that kind of thing was for their benefit and not the "tour" guests, so we had to sit and watch come dancing instead of enjoying ourselves in a well earned break we ended up sitting in the TV room and tried to watch a film, (some Saturday night).
The Sunday was much better as the entertainment was a chap singing and no local people calling in and claiming the night their own.

Would we go back No way - and that was the feeling from most of the "tour guests" - a crap way to make paying guests feel.

“retro hotel doesn't work for me”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2009

Having stayed at the willowbank hotel for 2 nights i would only recomend this place for over 80's as this seems to be the average age of it's guests it would be better changing into a nursing home ! Very tired decour in & out of the rooms . It was straight out of a faulty towers comedy as Ian the manager bossed his son Paul about in the resturant, in the 2nights i was there he wore he same tan shirt & trousers & looked as though he didnt know what a comb was for .Also i suggest he spend an extra few pence on hi breakfast sausages as these where the cheapest that i have ever had very little meat & loads of rusk & it's NOT a cheap place to stay P.S Paul the mangers son was great the only good thing about the hotel
