Have just come back from a nights stay at this hotel and had a really lovely time!
As you pull up the building itself is very attractive as is the reception area when you enter.
We stayed in what I think is classed as one of the master rooms... A large room with a huge bay window and four poster bed! Dressing table and 2 large armchairs. The room definitely has a wow factor as you walk in... This was a surprise present for me so I was even more impressed! :o)
Room and bathroom were immaculate with plenty of tea making facilities in the room and toiletries and towelling robes in the bathroom.
Can't really comment on the bar and restaurant as we chose to go to a restaurant in town however the menu looked lovely and room service was available. Food prices on the menu seemed a little higher than I expected but on reflection we probably ended up spending the same on our meal in town. Also, as we headed off that evening, the restaurant was packed with people... Most of which didn't seem to be guests in the hotel... Can only assume the food must be good!
Had a great nights sleep, very comfy bed and really quiet hotel! Breakfast the next day was lovely and pretty fast service.... Didn't think the black pudding was the best I've had but still nice and pretty petty criticism all things considered. All receptionists were really friendly and the the lady who checked us out in the morning (think she said she was the manager) was really chatty and friendly.

Stayed here for one night in November 2011. Had a "Classic" double room which I believe is the basic level of room in the hotel. The room & shower room were both VERY dated and 'tatty' with dirty grouting in the shower which put me off using it. There were cobwebs all over the light fittings and on the ceiling which was very off-putting.
Having said that the staff made up for the shortcomings of the room. The service from them was very good. From receptionist to restaurant staff - all were helpful and considerate.
Breakfast was of very good standard and the evening meal in the restaurant was acceptable but the menu needs a bit of modernising.
Not sure if I would recommend this hotel - ok for a quick meal in the bar though.

I stayed for 5 nights during September 2011.
It is a nice looking hotel set in pleasant gardens.
The room I was given at first had quite an unpleasant smell in it, but when I brought this to the attention of reception they moved me without any fuss.
The rooms are generally adequate. Not particularly large but clean and functional.
All staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
It has a nice bar and food is very good.
It is also within walking distance of several other restaurants located within the town.
I will not hesitate to stay again.

The hotel itself was nice but the room was very small and dated. The bathroom was small and the tiles and grouting were awful. The breakfast was good. We had people smoking in the next room. Told receptionist but nothing was done about it. We had to put up with the smoke seeping into our room all evening and again in the morning. Quite disgusting for us and made my husband feel quite ill. Spoke to staff again in the morning about it but no offer of compensation of any sort was offered. Certainly spoiled our stay.
