Knockomie is a lovely extended "arts and crafts" house in a nice quiet setting just outside Forres. The public rooms are individually-styled - very fresh dining room (with comfy chairs!), lovely wood-panelled bar and snug library / TV lounge.
We stayed 3 nights in mid-November (dinner, bed and breakfast).
Our bedroom (Glenlivet) on the ground floor was spacious, with good seating area, plenty of wardrobe space and a large, comfortable double bed.
Let's get the les-than-perfect bit out of the way now. The ensuite bath / shower facilities were "tired". Good powerful shower, but the screen leaked; the extractor wasn't working; the tiled floor was positively icy; paint was a bit scruffy. Nice hot towel rail though, and the room was good and clean.
Food at both dinner and breakfast was superb - freshly cooked to perfection and imaginativelt presented. The duck "special" and shin of beef merit particular praise. There's a decent selection of wine, much of which is sensibly priced.
The outstanding feature of the hotel, though, is the staff - everybody was friendly (without being too familiar), helpful and discreet. Either their staff selection or training (or both) are inspired.
Overall, this hotel is a gem - and not overy expensive for what it delivers. With luck, we'll be back.
Room Tip: It's a fairly quiet spot, so shouldn't be any noise problems. Suggest you discuss your requi...

Dear Clarsach,
Sometimes you get a review that just makes us as a team feel better, and that our efforts are appreciated. Our team really loved the special mention as they are proud of what they are doing. Your observation on the bathroom won’t be ignored, the super sized towel rail came from a guest suggestion. Above all we will look forward to welcoming you back to Knockomie. Thank you.
