“Domestic luxury”

A lovely place: we had a bedroom, sitting room, and two bathrooms -- comfortably furnished with sofas, hi-fi, and a small decanter of whisky. From there we were just a staircase away from the more formal hotel drawing room where drinks and canapes are served with great panache. Thereafter the set menu for dinner was for each of our three nights a real treat. Anthony in the kitchen has real flair and the service was immaculate, even if the charming white-gloved Slovakian stewards made us feel slightly as though we had stumbled onto the poop deck of the Queen Mary. We couldn't influence the October weather, unfortunately, so our ascents of Goat Fell and its neighbours were uniformly smothered in dense cloud. Kilmichael aims to make you feel as comfortable as you would be at home, with hotel luxury thrown in. It succeeds magnificently.

Room Tip: There are only a few rooms. Ask about each one and choose.

Thank you so much for your splendid review of Kilmichael. Rastislav and Imrich were most tickled to think of themselves on 'the poop deck of the Queen Mary', but we're pleased to note that you didn't find the atmosphere stuffy, which is just as it should be .

“everything you could wish for..”

when we set out for an island in scotland we jokingly said wouldn't it be perfect if we found a little hide away place with big open fires, a drawing room where we could snuggle up with a book if it was absolutely awful outside, have pre dinner drinks as if we were in the comfort of our own home, eat superb meals and ...maybe find a four poster bed!! But NOT somewhere stuffy that suffered from a superior complex or where you had to tiptoe around house protcol. We laughed and said it is great to have dreams and that we'd be happy if we found the half of that. In Kilmichael, please believe me, we found all of that and more. We dined as well as we have anywhere and the welcome was genuine and warm, nobody leaned over our shoulders and yet the service was attentive. Kilmichael is one of those FINDS. I almost don't want to tell anyone else it's there cos it's a real hidden jewel. A great island to visit too.

Room Tip: Ask for the four poster and the jacuzzi in the bathroom!

“A wonderful holiday eating, walking and golfing week - despite in the rain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Four of us shared the Peacock bungalow in the grounds of the Hotel which is immaculately furnished and wonderfully warm. We eat a couple of times in the Hotel and can only commend the excellent standard of service, food and hospitality. The location was very convenient and yet sufficiently remote to be very restful and quiet. A great experience and one to repeat.

“A personal welcome and an unforgettable experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

The warm welcome, beautiful surroundings and fascinating history made for a very comfortable stay and an unforgettable way to celebrate our 40 years of marriage.
The garden suite more than met our expectations. The personal service was exceptional at a time when it is becoming a rarity. We noticed the attention to detail such as the CD of our era garden flowers and a copy of the menu as a keepsake. Thank you Kilmichael we have already recommended you to friends visiting Arran as a 'must visit'.

“Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

If you are looking for peace and quiet in a cultured environment with hosts who quite obviously have an eye for detail then look no further. Cannot fault anything..other than the odd wee pothole on the driveway! The rooms were excellent. Our room, The Forest, was decorated with an Oriental motif and everything in the room was wonderfully co-ordinated. The welcome was very personal and warm and that's the way our stay progressed: personal and warm.
The food, wine and service were all beautifully poised and all this was topped off with the delightful bird life: ducks, chickens turkey and peacocks coming to say hello in the morning.
Perfection.

Thank you for your glowing report of your stay at Kilmichael. It's always gratifying to learn that guests appreciate our attention to detail and that our efforts to make visitors feel welcome personal friends rather than simply paying guests do not go unnoticed. Thank you again1
