Very clean rooms with comfortable beds. Food was fab. Very enjoyable visit, will return!
This was the original Victorian hotel in the Village and has retained many of the period charms. The conservatory and gardens were a bonus on a lovely weekend of warm sunshine. The hosts are charming but there is a wierd arrangement in such a small place where the bar and restaurant are franchised out so often the hotel staff were unaware of what was happening in them and vice versa. The dour barmaid/restaurant manager was a bit hard work, but had a dark sense of humour that was a refreshing change from the "Have a nice day" schlock service you get in many establishments.
Do not miss the Machrie stone circles just 4 miles out of town to the North. They take a bit of a walk to get to, but are incredible....7 seperate stone circles within a few hundred yards of each other ranging fron the Neolothic to the Bronze age with some predating stonehenge and some of the stones are huge - an amazing place.
