We have been guests here several times and we will definitely be returning. It is small, friendly and categorically non-boutique, thank goodness.
If you want to be close to nature, have stunning daytime and night time views, if you need to be close to Edinburgh without the big city frenzy, if you want the wind in your hair and the sound of seabirds in your ears this is the place. I don’t know of anywhere more relaxing.. you should try it.
The downhill drive to the hotel is rather daunting (perfection has it’s price) but it is driveable, believe me. We have done it many times, even in an icy winter. Once at the bottom of the cliff, you will be stuck by the view and, when you meet Pauleen, the owner, by her friendliness.
The rooms are just the right size with TV, tea/coffee making facilities and most have en-suite bathrooms. Almost all have views over the Forth of Firth.
The rooms are quirky and reflect the history of the building so don’t expect modern, hi-tech furniture and fittings. The beds are super comfy and there are extra blankets for people unused to the Scottish climate.
Breakfast choices are huge; just what I can remember..
Continental breakfast
Cereals, fresh fruit or if you are pushing out the boat (as we do ;o)
Full Scottish Breakfast or
Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs ( the best I have ever tasted )
We stay in two/three places when we come to Scotland and I would recommend this hotel for the following reasons:
Location, friendliness, peacefulness and atmosphere.
