“Friendly Hotel in Lovely Village”

Very warm welcome, friendly attentive staff, good quality food, perfectly cooked. Good atmosphere in the bar. The room we had was spacious, clean and comfortable.
Parking in the couryard is a bit tight, so I left the car parked overnight on the road, opposite the hotel, without any real concerns.
My wife had an interesting and enjoyable day meandering around this pretty coastal town while I was away at a hobby meeting in nearby Burntisland.

“Lovely hotel in a lovely village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

I have stayed at the Abourdour hotel more times than I can remember. It is friendly and welcoming and I even get a card from them at Christmas time!

The rooms are small-ish but are clean and comfortable. Staff are generally very helpful, although the inexperience of one or two of the younger staff members is sometimes apparant. For example, I nipped out to the loo, leaving my glass of beer on the table only to find it had been removed when I returned a copule of minutes later.

The food is fine; I recommend the lovely haddock they have in this part of the world. Breakfast is good, too.

Parking in their courtyard is a bit limited but there's a car park about a minute's walk away, next to the gorgeous and amazingly well maintained railway station.

Overall, a great little place!

“Good hotel in lovely location”

I'd actually rate this hotel 'good', but not having this option, it's definitely 'very good' rather than 'average'! However, I have to say this will depend on which room you get! We travelled with two other couples - we stayed in the more modern rooms behind the main pub/hotel, and when we saw the other rooms were very relieved! Ours was spacious, modern and comfortable, and in comparison the others were small and dated, with not quite double beds! These rooms could definitely do with a revamp. It's a bit like a Holiday Inn, but with character, and the pub/restaurant is great. We enjoyed lunch there after arriving, and the breakfast was fantastic! We went into Edinburgh in the evening and headed to the bar when we came back for a nightcap - we didn't get the friendliest reception from the barmaid or the locals, it felt very much like we weren't 'one of the village'! That was, however, the only negative about the service - everybody else there was so friendly and welcoming, and eager to tell us what was around and happening nearby. There are some lovely shops in Aberdour, and a nice short walk to the beach from the hotel. I'd definitely stay again, but only in the modern part unless the refurb the other rooms!

Room Tip: Stay in the modern rooms behind the hotel!

“A little gem.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011 via mobile

Stayed at the Aberdour with 11 friends on a golf trip. Our 3rd visit there. We love the place hence our 3rd time. I also had a couple of days with the missus last year. Great location near the beach, great for walks round the coast. Sleepy little town, not much to do so far as night life. The hotel has improved rooms with decor and refurbished the bar area. The staff are always friendly, helpful and will do what they can to make your stay go well. As was said in another review, breakfast could be hectic for one staff to handle. I'm sure we'll be back again. Thanks, frank hendy, leyland golf club.

“Great, but ........................................”

Room fine, great evening meals with really helpful, efficient and friendly evening staff, and I didn't even mind the lack of parking, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, oh dear, breakfast time! In order for this hotel to be very good, breakfasts need to get into 21st century. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, healthy interesting bread, local tasty preserves - sounds good, doesn't it? But no, we were offered tinned grapefruit segments. no yoghurt at all, toast made from thin sliced bread, and all preserves in little mass-produced cartons. The actual cooked breakfast was fine, but we were in Scotland - where was the porridge? The breakfast experience was also made less enjoyable by the fact that the one member of staff on duty, who was also expected, at the same time, to deal with any guests wishing to check out, seemed to be extremely stressed all the time - especially one morning when all the guests had the audacity to come down to breakfast at the same time - and shared her stress with us. So ........ potentially a great little hotel, but please give some more thought to breakfasts.
