“Wonderful staff, ambience, cleanliness and food with comfy beds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

The staff are friendly without being intrusive, they ask if every thing is ok and mean it, there is a sense that they are genuinely interested in your comfort and will fix anything if needs be. The hotel has a lovely ambience and you feel instantly relaxed on entry. Everywhere is clean and the beds and rooms comfortable. Would thoroughly recommend a visit and with easy train access to Edinburgh from the local station it makes a quiet place to stay after a busy day sightseeing in the capital.

“A lovely hotel in a lovely village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

We had a memorable stay at this lovely hotel. The village is delightful but the train journey into Edinburgh only takes 30 minutes and the station is just five minutes' walk away from the hotel so it offers the best of both worlds. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff and our room on the first floor was very spacious. We didn't eat dinner there and breakfast on our first morning was rather slow, although tasty, but the swift efficient service on the second morning more than made up for any disappointment there. Highly recommended.

“Tired and in need of a severe makeover both staff and hotel”

As there is little choice in Aberdour on a Sunday we thought we would try High Tea here. The lady on the desk didn't even get up when we came in but gave us directions to the dining room. On entry I ooed and aahed fabulous decor. Looked promising - the menu was duly offered. Choice of Deep Fried Haddock, Steak Pie, Gammon Steak, Salad, Pasta and we could have Lamb but not it was pointed out the other two dishes.
I should have realised something was amiss when there were only two couples and a table of three at 5pm. Toast arrived ok. Then our food. Never had steak pie in a soup plate- unusual presentation but tasty anyway. My friend had very salty gammon steak.
Having had High Tea in various places in Fife-( the best so far at a wee golf club with stunning views and food to die for in Anstruther) we awaited the cakes and scones.
What a let down- two wee fruit scones, and what looked like three small shop bought cakes. Not quite the spirit of High Tea and at a cost of £10.95 (probably because it is a hotel). Not even faintly value for money- perhaps the owners should take a look at what other establishments are offering. Certainly won't be either repeating or recommending this place.

“Very Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2010

We were staying in Fife for a few days, having stayed in the north of the county with family we travelled south to see friends. We decided to stay at the Woodside because of the beautiful location and village of Aberdour.

When we arrived on a very wet miserable Saturday afternoon the reception staff were not very helpful. We checked in, given the key and told where the room was located. No offer to help with the cases to the room. The room was small and the decor very 'tired' the batteries in the T.V. had obviously gone because the remote control wouldn't work. The bed was uncomfortable-the mattress was 'lumpy' and the pillow (only 1 per person) was flat!

We didn't eat that evening at the Hotel as we had arranged to meet friends, but the breakfast was very greasey. When we gave our comments to the Receptionist (who was also the waitress at breakfast) she said the room we were in was a 'superior' room - at this we were just greatrful we hadn't booked a basic room!
