“Excellent, Comfortable and definately a Hidden Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2009

What a great base. This wonderful Bed & Breakfast was a fantastic place to stay. You felt like you were staying with friends. Our room was clean and self contained with an en-suite toilet and shower. There were towels provided as well as a hair drier. There was a TV and fairtrade tea and coffee making facilities. We had our own key which meant we could go off and come back without disturbing anyone. Breakfast was plentiful and relaxed. We made the mistake of using the park and ride system into Edinburgh and realised afterwards we should of used the train from Falkirk.

“Homely B and B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2009

Andrew and Helen treat you like family when they welcome you into their home. And what a home! An Edwardian villa that provides comfortable, spacious rooms and is tastefully decorated throughout. The shower room was quite small but was well equipped and yes, you can hear the plumbing but its only a minor disturbance. The guest's lounge looked lovely, though we had no cause to use it. The whole place is full of interesting artwork and photographs.
Breakfast was excellent, I was lucky to enjoy a special treat with my full Scottish plateful but I won't reveal exactly what because then you'll all expect it.
We visit relatives near Falkirk and have stayed at various places in the area but this has to be the best and the one we shall return to in the future.

“Interesting house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2008

My husband and I stayed at this guest house as part of our honeymoon in Scotland. We chose the location due to it's proximity to the Falkirk Wheel.

The house itself is tucked behind a privacy wall on a semi-busy street, but there is parking, albeit slightly tight. Look carefully or you might miss the drive. The location, at least it seemed to us, bordered on an area that one might not want to venture into at night. There were several liquor stores and not much else.

Our room was comfortable, with a nice view overlooking a valley. The bath was small, but that is to be expected. The hosts were very pleasant and allowed us to use their personal computer to check in for our flight the next day. We had a pleasant night, and their cooking was delicious.

The price seemed a tad high, and they had a cash only policy, which we did not know about before hand. There was an ATM down the road though, so problem solved.

We saw the wheel and had dinner at a nice restaurant called The Wheel House, which has excellent haggis.

All in all, our stay was pleasant.

“Stylish and very comfortable B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2008

We stayed at Oaklands B & B for one night on the way up to St Andrews as we wanted to visit the Falkirk Wheel.

We found Oaklands a very stylish, comfortable home from home. The Blue themed en suite bedroom was perfect for our needs, and guests have use of a big cosy lounge filled with very interesting arty books and interesting antiques. The dining room is very traditional and we liked sitting around the huge breakfast table with the other guests. Breakfast was also very good.

Andrew and Helen offer the usual great Scottish hospitality.

We would recommend a visit to the Falkirk wheel and if you go do book the boat trip - amazing!

“Agreeable Host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2008

We only had one quick night at Oaklands, but found it very nicely furnished with a super host who did everything necessary for us to be comfortable. The rooms were medium-large, the bath quite usable, the views into the garden nice. The house is wonderfully decorated with photos (many taken by the host) and has a very nice sitting room for the guests to hang out in. Internet access was very good too. Location was good - allowed us a quick trip to Edinburgh airport for an early flight.
