“Birthday celebration”

We bought an itison voucher for bed and breakfast with a champagne afternoon tea on arrival. Unfortunately the hotel wasn't available any Saturday during the time period the voucher was valid. However, as it was my husband's 50th birthday, the hotel went out of their way to accommodate us and we were given a room that is actually hidden in the wall of the walled garden. It used to be the 'King's Toilet'! Thankfully, it now has a roof, windows and is beautifully appointed with a huge wet room shower and bath. Dinner at the restaurant was superb and we enjoyed coffee and petit four in one of the lounges listening to the pianist, which was very cosy and relaxing. All in all, a lovely overnight stay to celebrate a special occasion. Oh, and afternoon tea was excellent. Had to go for a good long walk to walk it off before dinner.

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet, choose the 'King's Toilet'! It's hidden in the wall of...

“Perfect for a relaxing stay”

My husband and I enjoyed an overnight stay at Greywalls in January 2012. The hotel was lovely, the staff were pleasant and attentive, and the food was excellent.

We had a very nice room, which was very traditional and in keeping with the rest of the house, with a lovely view over the adjacent golf course. It was furnished with a desk / dressing table, with 2 armchairs and a fireplace, in addition to a large, very comfy, bed. A hospitality tray was provided on request.

A slight drawback was the shortage of power points. It was impossible to use a hairdryer and have access to a mirror at the dressing table at the same time. However, only staying for one night it was not too much of a problem, and it certainly did not detract from our enjoyment of the comfort of the room.

We had an afternoon snack in the Library on arrival, and dinner and breakfast in the main restaurant. Dinner was particularly lovely, and the wine list very reasonably priced. The full Scottish breakfast was also a winner, with superb, beautifully cooked ingredients and a perfectly sized serving after over-indulging the previous evening.

Overall, a very successful visit, the first but definitely not the last.

“Relax and Enjoy!”

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful birthday celebration meal and as always we were enveloped in the unique warmth of this special place. A roaring fire, a comfy sofa and the quiet attention from staff, who made sure that we had everything that we needed, was much appreciated. In particular a very discreet response to special dietary needs, meant that my husband enjoyed every delicious morsel with no need to worry! Great choice of food and wine and definitely something for everyone, with value and quality in both the set menu (offering amazing prices), or A la Carte. Emphasis on fresh local produce much in evidence and a passion fruit souffle to die for!
Service with a smile and those extra little touches mean we will be returning very soon!

“Relaxed and relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Greywalls has been on our "to do" list for ages. An Itison deal, however, meant that it didn't seem quite so decadent to spend a night at a hotel only a short drive from home. The main aim had been to see the house and gardens, and we were really lucky that the weather was bright and sunny when we arrived.

Everything about our short stay, though, was just great. The service was friendly and relaxed, not stuffy. The room, overlooking the gardens, was lovely and had everything you could want. We ate in Chez Roux and the whole experience was a delight - plate of olives, veg crisps etc as we had our drinks in the library first; not one but two amuse bouches; nice touches such as "Which fruit would you like in your glass of tap water?"; an astonishingly reasonably-priced "Daily menu" - only £28 for three course; beautifully hand-made sweets with coffee.

The building is extremely interesting and there are loads of public spaces in which to relax. The Gertrude Jekyll gardens were a delight as well.

The only negative aspect of our trip was that we were home again in about half an hour!
