“Had a great time we will be back..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Me and my girlfriend stayed here on the 19 of january on a groupon deal , and yes we had read trip advisor before we went and like most people through is these reviews true ? yes the castle is lovely on the outside and u do come in through what is the back entrance from the carpark that didnt put us off ,it was a bit cold the day we were there and had a quick walk about and the gardens and into the town the gardens would be lovely in the summer, the hotel was a bit cold when we arrived as was the room as the heating was only on ,the staff we found was more than friendly and very helpful the room we had was a bit small for a doudle room but lovely and the bed was very comfortable and the ensuite was clean and had plenty of towels and the water was very warm the hotel is a bit eclectic but that is one of its lovely points , the restaurant is a americian style steak house but it does not look like the dinning room in the photos on the web site, the food was lovely with good sized portions with a lovely bottle of wine i had the fillet steak and it was as good as ive tasted in a while we both really enjoyed the meal, the upstairs lounge is a bit basic with a drinks fridge with beer and small bottles of wine in it there is great views of the country side from here the breakfast the next mornin is freshly cooked when ordered and was lovely , in all the price of the groupen deal was good value for our stay andwe would try it again in the summer on another groupon deal when the weather is warmer . I hope this is helpful till anyone else but were ever u go its up till it u to make it as fun as u want as for us we had plenty of fun and laughs..

“DO NOT STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

My boyfriend took me away as part of my Xmas present, we arrived on the 29th Dec.
On our arrival we drove passed this castle as it was described on their website as being on 22 acres, we were greeted by an ugly car park and no sign to say welcome to Dungiven Castle, only a neon sign saying open, and the back of the castle, certainly not the image on your website.

This raised alarm bells with us as we were expecting something completely different. On arrival i asked where the rest of the castle was( i was told the rest was private??)
When i asked where the spa was, as there was an arrow pointing to the right and a sign saying SPA....I was told it is actually down the town, and not in the castle??how can they advertise a spa facility if you don't have one??? this is completely false advertising.

We went to our room which was the only nice part, as we had to up grade as there was no room free for two nights...on their website they say you have luxury toiletries, which there was no shower gel, and the next morning after the room was cleaned the toilet roll and luxury items had not been replaced??which is not good enough for the cost of this room.

We had NO hot water for the two days / nights we were there. On the first evening we complained but they did NOT have a 24 hour desk reception service, it a was a voice mail on the phone and not good enough service at all.
The next morning we complained about this, and we were told she would get a plumber to see to it.
It had NOT been fixed on our second evening and when my boyfriend calling down about this he was told to have a BATH!, as the shower was not working.
This was completely unacceptable and no way near good enough for your 4 star castle? it is a basic facility to have a hot shower in a room. Epically the cost of this suite room.

We went to the BAR!! which was a 2 tap in the so called restaurant...none of which matched the images on their website, nor did the images of the food, it looked like fine dining, but turned out to be like tfi Fridays, grill and diner tacky.
We had to have a drink in our room, as your lounge was 3 couches and a mini fridge it looked more like a hostel room.

The whole experience ruined our weekend and what should have been a relaxing, romantic getaway for myself and my boyfriend.
Their whole website and advertising is a lie and i don't know how they received 4 star anything or awards for your food?

When i wrote an email of complaint, i was told the no hot water WAS AN ACT OF GOD!!
and when i asked for a refund of the upgarde, i was told that i would be done for fraud for trying to extort money from the business and i was threatening the livelihoods of the work force by writing on trip advisor. He also threatened me with getting me banned off this site! How i don't know.
The Manager is a fruit & Nut and with that attitude to a bad complaint he wont be in business for very long.
So please take my advice and tell your friends and family to stay well clear of this sham of a Castle.

Room Tip: Dont stay here!

Hello Emma,

As we disussed over the phone,, yes the boiler did act up a bit and it was seen to right away. I invited you and your partner back for "Dinner Bed and Breakfast" complimentary and you refused this asking me for £110 or you were going to write a bad review.

I guess we will leave it at that.

Kindest regards,

Scott

“Wonderful food & hospitality at the Castle!”

Having driven past Dungiven Castle numerous times on the way to Donegal, I would never have looked twice at the Castle, until I saw it from an entirely different aspect on a Groupon deal. Talk about appearances being deceptive!
The entrance to the Castle is very underwhelming, but once inside it's a different story. Reception is small but cosy, with lovely views over the rolling countryside, despite the atrocious weather whilst we were there.
As other reviewers have stated, what really sells the experience is the the very personal and friendly impression from all staff we encountered. The food in the restaurant was superb, as was the freshly prepared breakfast the next morning.
Our room was small, but cosy and very tastefully furnished and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in! We had a wonderfully relaxing time in the Castle and would definitely return, especially for the food & wonderful hospitality!

Room Tip: If a Groupon deal becomes available for the Castle again, don't miss it!

“'Given' a warm welcome and excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

The Dungiven Castle is a small eclectic hotel in the less than famous village of Dungiven , in the northwest of northern Ireland. Appropriately named, it is ,in fact , a castle, or manor house, set back from the main street, behind a public car park, a somewhat disconcerting entrance to the place. Who expects to find a castle in the main street?
However, once inside, it is spotlessly clean and well designed; the staff entusiastic and friendly and the room we had tasteful, if small, and wonderfully warm with breathtaking views over the Derry countryside. The en-suite bathroom had both bath and shower and ample fluffy towells and toiletries;the room itself had wooden floor and white wooden furniture, with safe, hairdrier and all other necessities.
The restaurant, entitled 'The Longhorn Bar and Grill' had a western theme to the menu; but the food was excellent ;being both very fresh and cooked with skill. You can watch your food being prepared; as the kitchen is on view the whole time. We had both dinner and breakfast here, and I would heartily recommend both, but have to say that the breakfast was probably the best I have ever experienced in a hotel. The reason for this is, I think, what makes the hotel so good; personal service. So many hotels expect you to endure a breakfast self-seved from under heat lamps; this breakfast was individually prepared and tasted wonderful.
It is, as previously stated, a small hotel (not more than six or seven rooms, I think), and has certain refreshing idiosyncricies; you have a real key to your room , not a key card, and a key to the front door should you wish to stay out late. The windows are not double glazed; but the curtains so thick and long that any draught is excluded effortlessly. There is a residents lounge with an honesty bar, several board games and dvds, and there is of course, a tv in the room.
Perhaps not as posh as the name suggests - there would be no need to dress up for dinner, but as a base for touring round the northwest , I would definitely recommend this place; and if you are looking for a good meal call in!

Room Tip: Talk to the staff; they will be able to help.
