“A hotel of character in a lovely location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

This hotel dates back to 1609 and was a coaching inn in the 18th century. It retains it's old world charm but with contemporary twists and friendly staff

We enjoyed our brief stay, the room was very well appointed and the meals and service in the Lewis restaurant were good.
Took a long walk from the Inn into the local country park which joins the village with the sea, a beautiful area close to the delights of Belfast

Dear Cookstours69
Thank you for writing a positive review. The location here is second to none and it's very nice of you to point this out to tripadvisor members. We very much enjoy being so close to so much of Northern Irelands natural beauty spots!

“Stayed for a wedding, would recommend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed at the Old Inn Crawfordsburn for a wedding. Could have travelled home but decided to enjoy the weekend and was a good choice. We were lucky get the Fern suite which had a 4 poster bed and was beautiful. The bed was reasonably comfortable, but a bit lumpy in parts. After partying at the wedding though, we were exhausted and slept very well. Everything you needed in the room and very comfortable. The whole hotel was so quaint, inside and out and furnished to a high standard throughout. Our room had the heat on full boom and we couldn't get it turned down, which was frustrating, but not a problem. For a cold early February stay there was a wonderful atmosphere throughout with fires and stoves on in every room. The wedding meal was lovely and the breakfast was very good with plentiful cereals, fruit and bread and the cooked breakfast was served to the table.

The rate for the night wasn't the cheapest, but it was worth it for us and I would definitely recommend again.

Dear Caitni2000
Thank you for your positive comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and your experience in the Fern bedroom and the four poster bed which adds so much charm to the room. We have investigated the room temperature and discovered a previous guest had (accidentally) removed one of the controls for the heating, which is now replaced. Much appreciated.

“room not up to standard expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

recently stayed for a wedding but found no bedside light. Twin room (Thatch Patch) if I wanted to get up to go to toilet had to switch on all lights in the room - luckily I was on my own as imagine other room user would not have been amused to be woken by bright lights.
Window and wardrobe faced onto back of hotel which was well lit but curtain and wardrobe (which was see through to outside!) let a lot of illumination in.
Radiator extremely hot, dangerously so I consider.

Room Tip: not overlooking carpark, not Thatch Patch

Dear Highlandwife.
Thank you for your comments. Based on your feedback we are considering some minor changes to the lighting and windown dressings. As all rooms are unique we try to find ways of bringing more light into some rooms and perhaps the thatchpatch could do with a review. We will monitor the feedback from this room with great interest. Also we will look at the heating controls. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

“Wonderful experience”

My friend and I arrived late on a Sunday evening after a long drive from attending The Solheim Cup. We were given a very warm welcome and as the restaurant was closed the duty manager made us a plate of delicious sandwiches. We had a lovely room and comfy beds. We had a lovely breakfast and were only sorry that we were not going to be there for dinner. We intend to return in 2012 with our husbands for a golfing break.

Dear Hilpol
I'm most pleased that our manager on duty took the extra care of ensuring you were given some sandwiches when arriving hungry on your stay. Our staff are given every support in meeting the needs of each guest and it's very satisfying to know that they are performing this regularly! Thank you for letting us know and we look forward to the arrival of all of you on your golfing break later in the year!

“Amazing experience from start to finish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

This is a beautiful old building situated in the coastalCo Down town of Crawfordsburn. My wife and I have stayed here twice before in 1998 and 2008 to celebrate our 10th and 20th wedding anniversaries - each time the experience has been outstanding.
Tonight - 28/01/12 we simply went for dinner - our table was booked for 9pm - we arrived at 8pm and went to the bar for a drink - I was approached by a gentleman who I now know is the owner and he asked if we had a booking - I explained we were booked for 9pm but would be happy to eat sooner if possible - he asked us to leave it with him. At 8.30 the gentleman returned and led us to our table.
We decided to eat from a set menu costing around £50 per couple including a bottle of decent wine. We had starters of Chicken liver Parfait and Duck - both were beautiful - followed by the chicken dish and aged Sirloin steak (£3.50 extra) - both were delicious - the wine was also lovely - our waitress Leah was a brilliant rep for her employers - she had good info on all of the menu, was really friendly and totally added to this experience. Our total bill was around £59 for a lovely Saturday night out. So chuffed that we've booked a table for us and our 2 grown ups in two weeks time when our daughter is home from England - cant wait - really top class food, in a very busy restaurant - well managed - cant recommend highly enough
