“Dated but lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed here with friends on the groupon deal, and must say we wernt disappointed. Given how much the groupon deal cost i think we got excellent value for money. Yes the rooms are dated, but it was clean and had everything in it we required, only complaint would be that the room was too warm. The food both on the evening meal & breakfast was very good, with very large portions, yes you have to pay for your xtras but that was stated on your groupon coupon, so not something to groan about as others have. All the staff we encountered were the friendliest ever, stopping to chat and making us feel welcome everywhere in the hotel we went. Overall we had a great time and especially enjoyed the cocktails.

“no room with a view”

stayed here with my sister on a groupon offer (may need to point out here groupon offers users have paid good money for these deals an are entitled to be treated just as any other guest) having spoken to a few of the other residents staying that night if it weren't for groupon offers the hotel would have been near to empty the night we stayed. As other reviews have stated while we found the hotel to be clean it is very dated, when we entered our room there was an unpleasant smell, which a few sprays of perfume seem to mask ,room very basic hotel still using shower gel, soap, shampoo dispensers (health & hygiene) single wrapped products would be more acceptable also only one glass in bathroom had to request a second I have stayed at other hotels with the groupon offer and the evening meal deal has been 2 courses with glass of wine, Millbrook meal deal was main item on main course only, ie order fish and you then had to pay for your chips veg etc actual menu was more like a children's menu very limited, with glass of house wine/vinegar!! breakfast in the morning wasn't much better dinning area which is also part of the bar area was heated with a small blow heater, the hotel is totally lacking of atmosphere overall impression this is a penny pinching establishmentno that could benefit from a visit by the hotel inspector we would not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone friend or foe

Room Tip: try another hotel

“Won't hurry back...”

Attended a wedding recently in this hotel. To give credit the food at the wedding was very good but were very annoyed as the smoke alarm went off twice at 3am in the morning just as we were trying to get to sleep. Then when we woke up in the morning we couldn't get a shower as there was no hot water - this was supposedly down to the smoke alarm knocking the system out. Receptionist was not very sympathetic or apologetic and blamed a wedding guest for smoking in one of the rooms. She said she couldn't get in touch with the manager as it was her day off! Won't be in a hurry back to stay in this hotel.

“Fantastic Christmas Day meal!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

My family and I decided to dine out this Christmas as a lot of us were visiting from England and no one fancied cooking this year! I have to say that we were not disappointed! The food was fantastic although with the service you could tell it was Christmas day as they were trying to get us out quickly and the courses were relentlessly quick! I had to ask for a quick 10 min break between some of the courses! The desert was the best Christmas pudding i have ever had. we all agreed that we would do it again next year if it is open. I am looking for a wedding venue as I am getting married in 2013 and I think we might consider her! Going to visit again next time we are over at Easter and take a tour. Thanks for a great Christmas day! We enjoyed it so much.

“Excellent food but management rude”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Attended Christmas party on Saturday 10th December. Absolutely excellent food - tasty, hot and plenty of it! Great atmosphere, great music - a great night
One criticism - management (male, maybe late 20's early 30's) rude and doesnt seem to know how to be polite to customers or indeed his staff members.
Will definitely be back however for the food - excellent value for money!
