The people running this exquisite but old establishment are down to earth, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. The building has an air of mystery and adventure. Ask the owners and they will thrill you with stories of times gone by, about how the area was used for smuggling and the reported tunnels that weave like spaghetti under Gordon House and surrounding properties. The rooms are self contained, comfortable and well priced. Gordon House is perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding country side and only a short pleasant walk into into the Wimborne town square. Highly recommended.

Somebody else called the Gordon House “The only thing we could find” and gave a mere two stars.
I don't know what they were expecting. True, there are no uniformed bellboys and neither is there a salon with a piano trio playing for afternoon tea. But maybe you're like me and have no wish to pay for such things.
I found a typical English guesthouse that was pretty much perfect in every respect that mattered - and at a very reasonable price.

We arrived in Wimborne Minister at dinner time after a long day. Hadn't booked ahead as we didn't know where we'd end up that day. This was the only place we could find that had a room for 2 nights in October after calling on several others.

It was OK. Rather worn out, but clean. Owners helpful, but not overly friendly or chatty. On-site parking, and within easy walk of centre of town. Breakfast standard full English - nothing special. We were just grateful at the time to have a roof over our heads for the night. Didn't spend much time there - were to busy touring the wonderful Dorset countryside.
