“Good Location, Nice place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

I have to say that our four night stay, as a family of three, was very good. We had the Ruby room and were able to park right next to it three nights out of four. Not that it was a problem on the night we could get right outside. The room was Ideal for us as we had an eight year old with us and we were able to make sure he was OK sleeping in the same room as us on a pull out bed. The room was spacious, comfortable and had a PINK TV, a talking point for all. Freeview DTT box meant that when we were trying to get ready to go out our son was occupied with CBeebies and not getting under our feet, that is when he wasn't out hunting for bugs in the surrounding gardens!

The location of the B&B is great for exploring Devon and Cornwall. We were about 40mins to the Eden project, a must see, if you are in the area. Not that much further from Dartmoor, Tavistock, Dartmouth, Totnes or Padstow, some of the places we went to see.

Paul and Cathy are ideal hosts, warm and friendly making you feel comfortable at all times.

The B&B is not a four star hotel but it is comfortable and ideal for those either wanting a stop over en-route to somewhere further afield, or a base to use for sights in Devon or Cornwall.

My review would not be complete without mentioning the breakfast!!!

The breakfast that Paul cooks is without question a 5 Star breakfast and it is worth staying at this B&B just for that alone!! Breakfast is also a time to meet the other guests and I think the fact that Cathy and Paul are so friendly rubs off as you find yourself talking to other guests quiet naturally unlike other places where everyone eats, head down and you could hear a pin drop.

We will most definitely go back to this hidden gem to finish exploring the areas we missed this time round..

Highly recommended in our view.

“Lovely setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

We stayed here to break the journey whilst on-route to Falmouth. The drive to the b&b from the main road was enjoyable.

The b&b is in a lovely setting. As the sat nav guided us in through the gate the view of the Old Thatched Cottage was lovely. We didn't have time to enjoy the garden which looked nice though the grass needed cutting!

The welcome was great. Nice people running the b&b.

We stayed in the Jade Room. It was clean and had all the essentials including some nice hospitality tray treats. There was a cottage feel to the room, perhaps a bit twee but we found it pleasant. The en-suite is perhaps a bit small.

We had dinner at the nearby Harris Arms which has great beers and very good pub food. It's about a mile away and walkable (take the right turn from the b&b gate - this avoids the main road, not that it has much traffic.)

The breakfast was excellent.

Booked this b&b online the rooms looked quite nice in the pictures shame you can't get smell's on the net our room the "Ruby Room" smelt of a mixture of damp dog's and paint !!!! the window's leaked ...the welcome basket consisted of one small bottle of water , a pack of mini biscuits and 4 sweets from a tin of celebration .......skipped breakfast as we couldn't wait to get home to rid ourselfs of the damp smell on all our clothes and luggage ........all in all not a nice place to stay unless you like the damp dog smell and like being over come with paint fumes .

“Lovely for a retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2008

We were originally booked in to the Brambles Art Retreat but they didn't have any accommodation available so they put us into the Old Coach House instead.
We were made very welcome and breakfast was just right with a wide choice. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was immaculate and clean with everything we could wish for. The gardens were lovely and we felt welcome enough to stay there all day if we wanted to - we weren't pushed out during the day at all. They just asked when it would be convenient to clean our room daily. The decoration was a little dated but still pleasant and certainly clean. A very relaxing stay.

  • Liked — Friendliness, cleanliness, good food
  • Disliked — steps in the garden needed a rail

“Fantastic B and B!!”

Arrived for a late - booked family break during August. Travelling with our 13 year old daughter and 4 month old baby son. Exceeded our expecations .. very reasonably priced. Wonderful welcome from proprietors, comfortable and very spacious room with extra special touches not normally associated with most B and Bs (eg fridge in room, welcome basket etc)

Breakfasts were exceptionally good and at all times we were made to feel very welcome and relaxed.

Definitiely will return soon. Great place!
