“Brilliant hospitality and great Snipe shooting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This was a "boys trip". Seven of us went for two nights. We arrived on Thursday evening and met up in the bar and had a great meal - Cornish Crab followed by Steak with home made onion rings. We were picked up at 8.30am on Friday for the Snipe Shooting by Rob. None of had been before, although we had all shot other game. It was very different to usual game shooting and very enjoyable. We had 9 drives spread out around the area. Snipe live on wet boggy ground - which was reflected in where we went.
On Friday night the kitchen made canapes from the Snipe - very tasty. Another great meal and a few drinks and advice on everyone's shooting followed.
On the Saturday morning, two of us went down to Tinhay Lake for some fishing. Too cold for the fish really, but we saw a few and enjoyed the view.
As ever, a lovely break and we all resolved to come back again for mroe Snipe shooting next Season.

“Boxing day lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

An excellent meal in the attractively refurbished dining room. Although the restaurant was very busy, the staff were warm, welcoming and attentive. The food was attractively presented and tasty.

I am delighted that you enjoyed your lunch with us. Boxing Day is always one of our busiest days of the year as we have the Lamerton Hunt meet in our yard in the morning but it is a pleasure to have so many guests come back and have lunch with us afterwards.

“Great service and food but slightly expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed at the Arundell arms for 2 nights over New Years Eve so i suppose the price of £175 for the room was inflated because of this. This was my only gripe as our Room No 12 was just not worth this price. It was too small although clean.

The service and the friendliness of the team right from the start was really very good and fantastic to be honest. The food was also very good and we dined in the restaurant on NYE and in the bar on New Years day - both very good.

Childrens meals very small you may want to order the adults portion as it wasnt that different in price for some dishes.

There is also a skittle alley, table tennis and table football in the building in the car park which is free and great fun if you are with a couple or have children.

The only thing we felt was this was for the older set - we arent that young ie 45's however we were the youngest on NYE.

Room Tip: Dont ask for room 12 and ask for a room with a settee in we saw that there were some like this but w...

I am pleased that you enjoyed your New Year break with us and that you found our staff team to be as friendly as ever and the food good. I agree that Room 12 is not large although it does have great views to Dartmoor. Unfortunately we were fully booked for New Year and we had no other room to offer you by the time of your booking.

I am always keen that guests explore the Skittle Alley at the hotel as it and the other games are great for all regardless of age.

I cannot comment on the age of our guests other than to note that there was a lively atmosphere in our pub (adjacent to the hotel) on New Year's Eve as we had a live band who went down well with locals and hotel guests.

“Great for the hunting and fishing brigade”

Stayed here one night on business. As a keen fly fisherman and shooter I had of course heard of the Arundel Arms ans was looking forward to staying but I have to confess I was a little disappointed.
The staff were all very polite but a little aloof so I decided to eat next door in their pub.Had one pint and came out as the language of the people at the bar was foul (And I work in the motor trade so have heard everything)
Went back to the hotel to find there was no beer available on tap (in fact another customer went to pub and brought his beer back!)
Meal was very good and breakfast was fine. Room really small but maybe this was as I had booked via a "late booking" type of web site.
I got the feeling that they felt they didn't need to try too hard as afterall "This is the Arundel Arms".

I am saddened that your experience of the Arundell Arms did not live up to your expectations. We do try hard for all our guests to give them an excellent time and there is certainly no resting on our laurels for any of us.

I am surprised that you heard bad language in our pub. It is run by a mother and daughter team who work hard to maintain the family friendly atmosphere and we collectively have zero tolerance of bad behaviour.

There is real ale on tap in the hotel bar - Dartmoor Brewery Jail Ale. We will also willingly bring any of the other 6 draft beers, ciders and lager that we serve in our pub to your table in the hotel bar.

I am very much hope that you will return in the fishing season and enjoy a day's fly fishing with us.

“Traditional Virtues”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

The Arundell Arms is a delightful traditional English country hotel. The old polished slate floors, open fires and super hospitality adds to the experience. Fishing, shooting, good food and stunning Devon countryside is enough of a draw to make return visits essential.
There is a buzzing bar and village pub, a smart dining room and old style lounge. The restaurant food is fantastic with local meat and fish cooked brilliantly. The bedrooms are bright and well furnished.
