“Perfect venue”

We made the excellent decision to celebrate a friends birthday at Combe House. From the first telephone call all our requests were dealt with courteously and efficiently - even down to smuggling the husband in through a back door bearing birthday cake to enable a complete surprise element! The surroundings were beautiful and the food excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and the attention to detail was second to none. Well done and thank you to everyone involved.

“I bath outside”

Ken and Ruth are the wonderful people who own this extraordinary hotel set in 1000 acres of manorial splendour. Ken was brought up in East Africa and has hankered after that early life style; he has built a couple of thatched African round huts in the grounds and also converted an old outside privy into a bathroom for the more discerning guests. This bathroom, and I use the term in its more general sense, is fed with rain water which is heated with an outside wood fire under a copper cylinder and stoked by an eccentric gardener called Charlie. I order a bottle of Don Perignon and relax with a book by Arthur Ransome twiddling the taps with my big toe and enjoying the steam meeting the cold December air. It is delightful.

You can land your helicopter but radio (telephone) in first.

“Perfect weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

It's rare that I have nothing to complain about, so really have to say we were chuffed to bits with our stay - it was an anniversary trip for me and my partner.

The service was perfect - everything you'd expect and more! The meal was incredible, and service impeccible - the waiters were there when I needed them but never interrupted me once (seems rare to have proper service these days, but they nailed it!!). The room was out of this world - 7ft copper bath tub, our own lounge, comfy massive bed... if I won the lottery tomorrow I'd go back there and spen a week copying the rooms in my suite so I could duplicate it in my own house - it was perfect!

It was expensive, but no where near what I've paid for city breaks, and it was miles ahead of any of these - I would have paid double what I did for coombe house and still had no regrets! - It was a perfect weekend with perfect memories so can't put a price on it!

Beautiful location as well - romantic walks along the coast, cream teas in gardens, etc! Just perfect!

Room Tip: Go for a suite with a 7ft copper bath tub and order some chapagne - best night we've ever had!!!

“For the price I expected a lot more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I used this facility on a business meeting to somewhat impress a client, but I wasn't impressed at all. The vegetarian menu for starters is minimal and me being allergic to meat that's the main thing I look for in a restaurant. I wouldn't eat here if you have any form of allergy as when you tell the waiter you want pasta with a tomato sauce and no meat for example they bring it back with what you have asked not to have in, which is frustrating, I stayed in the cottage here, and it wasn't worth the extra money, the house was tiny, cold, and linens were shabby.
The staff were lovely, but it just seems to be that they have a few faults, and for the price you are paying you expect it to be right, and it just wasn't.

As a whole family that live in different parts of the Uk it's just so great to have Combe house hotel just a few miles away from where we live.So when evryone comes to see us we nearly always go there!
Every time we go as a large party or just the two of us it has been a great occasion!
The Staff, The place, The food are all exceptional, We go for lunch normally as we have young children who are always very well catered for.
Excellent job guys!!!!!!
