“Sumptuous!”

As I am very rich, I took my Lady for three nights here in their top suite. £1450 per night. The room, Dartmeet, has a huge bathroom with sauna and steamroom
A massive bed and beautiful lounge
A balcony with views over the valley
They give you complementary Madeira, and fruit and jelly beans
Michael Caines is the chef
Food is superb
Not for the faint hearted with the price but worth it in the end.

Room Tip: Drtmeet is the best

“It's been said before but i'll say it again - excelent”

Just like most of the other reviews we were very pleased with our 2 night stay in Gidleigh Park. The food was excellent, well deserving of the Michelin stars, the only thing to remember is that if you are going for the taster or signature menus, bear in mind that you will also be getting pre-starters with your pre-dinner drinks and also petit fours with coffee after the meal, so plan ahead. Weather permitting, have a walk around the grounds as they are lovely and peaceful, try some bird spotting in the old woods, then take your papers and crosswords and have an afternoon coffee or drink, relaxing by the fire in the lounge. This is what we did and just relax. All the staff are helpful, efficient and very approachable. It's not cheap, but for a treat, it's a guaranteed bit of luxury. Oh, almost forgot, the road to Gidleigh is quite narrow in places and can be fun when you meet others traveling in the opposite direction but that is the only negative i can think of.

Room Tip: Choose a room looking onto the front of the property as the views all help to relax you, even the no...

“Best hotel in the world!”

Nothing can beat this place. From the surroundings to the staff, this is THE place to go and switch off with your loved one. The food is among the best in the world, the staff are the best I have ever encountered, and this will long be the one place in the world that is as close to an oasis of calm that one could get.

Room Tip: Call and ask what is available - the room above the kitchen is quite something else. Twin bath, saun...

“Fantastic bath!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

You know when your in a superb Hotel not by the obvious but by the little things. Let me give you an example, I walked into my bathroom and saw one of the biggest baths i have ever seen! I really wanted a bath but thought I would have to wait an hour to fill it, how wrong I was. 5 minutes later, with water coming out of the taps like Victoria falls I was doing lenghts up and down the bath. This may seem a peculiar thing to focus on but as a seasoned traveller used to stupid baths that take ages to fill and only cover three quarters of your body, this, to me sums Gidleigh up.

If they can make having a simple bath fantastic then everything else follows suit and it surely does. This is as good as it gets.

The only reason I haven't given five stars for service is because last January i visited with some clients of ours and we were asked to choose our desserts when we ordered, we said we didnt know what we wanted at that point and then later after we had finished our main courses were told is was too late change. My friend wanted cheese but was told he couldn't because his dessert was on the way. In a restaurant of this quality/price that is not acceptable. My friend did comment on a later visit and was assured this would never happen again.

Room Tip: Go for the room on the corner with the bath in it. Very romantic.

“A wonderful new year stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Stayed over New Year and had a great break from the real world. This hotel delivers something rather unique and special again and again. It’s not the swishiest . it doesn’t have a super gym (thank goodness) nor a pool however it has the most brilliant kitchen and staff I have ever come across.
As an example after coming in from a good walk we dumped our wet and dirty gear and boots back in the car. On walking into reception we were met with coat hangers and a where’s your coats? Keys then requested and they went back out to get them so as to put them in their drying room. On check out morning we found our boots had also been retrieved and were outside our door cleaned and dried. That’s service
Food glorious food. Spent the early hours of New Year ’s Day talking to Michael Cain’s who came across as a passionate but very normal man. Such a change from others I have met.
On departure picked up copies of the three evening menus signed by MC and reserved a room for next year. What more can I say.

Room Tip: All are nice. not big but well looked after and all individual. Manaton with the rooftop hot tub is...
