Trip to this hotel was purchased through Groupon and given to us as a Christmas present. After looking at the brochure, we were really looking forward to our stay but oh my goodness, how different was the reality from the brochure!
As soon as we entered the car park it was evident that the whole place was very tired and dated, in fact in need of total refurbishment. Upon entering our room, this became even more apparent, The curtains were all but falling down with trimmings coming off the pelmets and pull cords that didn't work. There was a coffe-cup ring left on the window sill from previous occupants. It didn't look as though the room had been re-decorated for years. The bathroom was little short of a health hazard. Cistern lid was cracked in so many places it's a wonder it still holds together. The bath surround was covered in dust but even this was not as bad as the state of the washbasin which was covered in general bathroom gunge where the mirror joined it. Taps too were incredibly dirty.
Linen however, both in the bathroom and on the beds was spotless.
Our deal included an evening meal but a more unimaginative menu would be hard to find - who wants to eat scampi, cottage pie or nut roast ( the only choices on the menu) for their Sunday evening meal? Breakfast however, was much better with something to suit all tastes.
Nice to have sauna and pool, though rather small, and an excellent location. Such a pity the hotel itself failed to live up to expectations.
