My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights over the Royal Wedding long weekend (£34pax per night). The reception wasn't manned, but we only had to press a bell for someone to come help us. The owners were very helpful in suggesting walks, printed maps for us and gave us a very good recommendation for dinner (Poopdeck seafood in Brixham town). Our room (no. 1) was clean, comfortable and cosy. Bathroom was a tad small, but very manageable. The hotel is also right next to the Churston Steam Railway Station, which made travelling to Dartmouth (via Kingswear) very easy. We walked to Brixham (30min) but a direct bus can take you there in less than 10min. For dinner options, you can order pre-food in the B&B, or walk 5min to the Weary Ploughman or 10min to the Manor Inn. The hotel was a good starting place for the Greenway Walk (to see Agatha Christie's holiday house) - amazing views, and is close to Broadsands beach. Very much recommended.

We have used this hotel many times previously. We always use it as a stopover when travelling on to a holiday park, but always say each time that we wish we were staying here for the week instead! Lovely, clean & quiet, right beside Churston train station (don't worry, not 24 hour express trains! Just steam trains which travel on the Paignton to Dartmouth line in the daytime). We always stay in room 8 which is a family suite with 2 separate bedrooms. We notice the rooms have had a makeover since our last visit 3 years ago (not that they needed it really!). Only a small hotel, 8 rooms in total. The owners are nice & friendly and always take time for a chat. Tthey have a large selection of DVDs you can borrow to watch in the bedrooms (great for the kids). 5 star breakfast! I had the continental - 2 croissants, 2 large slices of ham, different cheeses, mmmmmm! Private car parking. Hotel is well placed for visiting Brixham, Paignton & Torquay. There is an 18 hole pitch & put course nearby as well as a go-karting track. I would highly recommend this hotel!

I work all over the south west regeon and this hotel is one of my regular stops. I stay at the White Horse because for me its just right in so many ways. Great location (very quiet), great people and very clean, comfortable rooms.

I agree with most of the comments made by the previous reviewers this year - overall excellent value for money. Only three minor quibbles in my mind detracted from the stay and meant that I couldn't award 5 stars. These were:

A) All the staff were very friendly with the exception of an older male, who made me feel that I was a bit of a nuisance staying there.

B) The firedoors, which must be kept closed according to fire regulations and safety, were all wedged open.

C) The approach is not that inviting - it is alongside a pub and a railstation (although the latter is for tourist steam trains which look very nice and only run during the day)
