“Perfect in every way.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

We stayed 4 nights at the Henley in the large room with double aspect on the late May bank holiday weekend. This room is beautifully furnished and has wonderful sea views. I find most hotel beds to be very uncomfortable, but not so at the Henley. We found Martyn and Petra to be friendly and responsive hosts. Their little girl was a delight.

Martyn is an accomplished cook and we ate dinner at the hotel on two occasions. We prebooked our first night's dinner (Friday) and asked Martyn how much notice he would need if we wished to eat with them on Sunday. He was very flexible and told us that he would ensure there was food for us if we wished to dine and to let him know when we were sure of our plans. We also ate at the wonderful Oyster Shack and highly recommend it for fresh seafood.

The Henley offers everything and does it well. It is the perfect place for a relaxing couple's weekend and we look forward to a return visit.

“A little gem of a hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

Just spent my husband's birthday here and it was perfect. We had the largest room, which has double aspect windows and the most wonderful views. The room and the en-suite bathroom were luxurious and the three course dinner each night was exceptional.

Room Tip: I asked for the best room as it was my husband's birthday

“A Perfect Treat”

Unfortunately we could only stay one night as we were very comfortable at this beautiful small hotel. Martin the proprietor welcomed us and showed us to the end room overlooking the island. The views from this hotel can hardly be bettered. All the rooms are tastefully decorated in keeping with the age of the hotel and are spotlessly clean. We requested dinner at the time of booking, Martin is a very accomplished chef and our meal was absolutely outstanding. I had the the most tender and flavoursome fillet steak ever. I can only hope we are able to visit again.

“Fantastic experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

We made the mistake of eating at the Oyster Shack rather than at the hotel Other guests said the food was fantastic.

The rooms are boutique grade, the views are spectacular, the hosts are warm, friendly and welcoming, and the daughter and dog make the place magical.

A little bit of heaven. Our American guests said it is the best hotel they have ever stayed in, and we would second the comment.

“Wonderful, romantic short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

With just 5 guest rooms this is a small, comfortable, intimate hotel. I stayed for 3 nights with my husband in one end room, with splendid views over the river mouth and Burgh Island, whilst my sister, her husband and 2 dogs had the other end room which is slightly bigger.
Breakfast is a very relaxed affair; however, whether you choose the full English or poached kippers, it is worth waiting for. As the weather was a little cloudy on the Sunday we choose to spend the morning relaxing in the comfortable lounge to read the papers looking out over the wonderful sea views. The Henley is very much a home from home (if you are lucky enough to have such wonderful views that is!). A lovely touch is the binoculars left in all of the rooms including the conservatory and lounge. If you want an evening meal at the hotel, they do need notice as we found out when, even giving 26 hours notice early on Saturday evening wasn’t enough. It was a shame as the one evening meal that we did book was excellent. However, we ate at the splendid Oyster Shack just 10 minutes drive away which I can recommend. We didn’t meet Martin, the proprietor, until we checked out which was a shame as he seemed to be very friendly particularly as his foreign wife did seem to be cold although polite on occasion.
The Henley Hotel is perfect for a relaxing, romantic break, not to be recommended for families. The surrounding area is in a time warp, unspoilt by modern commercialism, accessed by single track roads with passing places, so don’t expect funfairs and slot machines. We hope to return one day.
