This is a surprise hotel as it offers guests far more than might first appear and mostly these are good surprises. Its on a hill but then most of St Peter Port is, but from this small hideaway you have unique views across the town and to the sea. The private garden is a treasure overlooking the city and where you can sit and relax or read and the breakfast room is very pleasant offering you the connection to the outdoors not often found in an inner city hotel. The rooms are modest but comfortable for the type of hotel this is. My room opened onto a large terrace where I could sit and look out over the view, something unique in most stays. The not so pleasant surprise are the steps, but everyone writes about them so they are not a shock. The simple and practical solution is get your taxi driver to stop at the top of the stairs and then its a 30 m walk down. The steps leading to the city are steep for someone who has problems or is elderly, so this is maybe not your hotel. But this is St Peter Port and there are steps everywhere so its part of the experience of being there. Once down you are in the heart of the town with immediate access to shops, restaurants, the sea and the port.
