“A Proper Guernsey Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

This is a surprise hotel as it offers guests far more than might first appear and mostly these are good surprises. Its on a hill but then most of St Peter Port is, but from this small hideaway you have unique views across the town and to the sea. The private garden is a treasure overlooking the city and where you can sit and relax or read and the breakfast room is very pleasant offering you the connection to the outdoors not often found in an inner city hotel. The rooms are modest but comfortable for the type of hotel this is. My room opened onto a large terrace where I could sit and look out over the view, something unique in most stays. The not so pleasant surprise are the steps, but everyone writes about them so they are not a shock. The simple and practical solution is get your taxi driver to stop at the top of the stairs and then its a 30 m walk down. The steps leading to the city are steep for someone who has problems or is elderly, so this is maybe not your hotel. But this is St Peter Port and there are steps everywhere so its part of the experience of being there. Once down you are in the heart of the town with immediate access to shops, restaurants, the sea and the port.

Room Tip: The rooms on the lower level with access onto the small terrace running along the hotel

“Excellent”

We stayed two nights here in September, 2011. The only negative thing is the walk up the stairs to get there! The room was lovely, breakfasts among the best we had on our trip-very fresh. Nice, quiet garden. Bathroom quite small, but had everything we needed. The honesty bar was a good place to get a drink before going out for dinner. Fantastic view.

“Nice hotel with great view, but with very rude& unpleasant waitress!”

We have stayed in this lovely hotel between 4-7 August 11. The room was nice and clean although very small. However for a few days break it is good enough. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is nicely decorated with a nice garden and only minutes walk from the centre, with amazing views! We stayed in room number 14 and the view was spectacular! Very helpful receptionist Vera, will help you with anything. What did put us off ,was the very rude and very unpleasant waitress caled Anita, serving us a breakfast every morning.

We have been shocked how unpleasant she was and how she treated us with disrespect. This was enough to put us off and we would not come back again if she was to serve us again! The manager should do something as this is really bad. Shame, as this unfortunately really spoils the hotel's reputation.

“amazing views, unfriendly, robotic staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

We stayed at the hotel for 7 nights and the staff were unfriendly and robotic - like. It was quite surreal. The room had the most AMAZING views and also had an excellent selection of teas, coffees (instant) and hot chocolate. There was a fridge which was very useful and it was silent which was good! In the bathroom there were good quality soaps, shower gels, shampoo and body milk.
To get to the hotel from the town there are 104 steep steps and to get to our room from the reception there were 40 steps! Be warned.! You don't need a car in Guernsey as the buses are frequent and cheap and there is nowhere close to park your car by the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for sea views and balcony

“Great Little Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

Well placed quiet hotel with clean room and great views.
Excellent breakfast - a good deal all round.

I went with five friends and we had flown with hand luggage only - easy to find. May not suit those with heavy suitcases and would not be recommended for wheelchairs - (access via steep steps) but if you are looking for a quiet, clean and good value place to stay, this is the one for you.
