“Fantastic restaurant experience”

We visited the restaurant during the wonderful tennerfest season in Guernsey. We have moved recently and so are trying more restaurants in the St Martins area. We are so glad that we sampled the restaurant at the Bon Port.
We arranged for a taxi to take us and we are glad we did as the Hotel is a little in the middle of nowhere! Lovely though if you're looking for a romantic getaway. We received a warm welcome and asked to sit in the bar for a pre dinner drink where there are comfy chairs and sofas. We chose from the menu which had a great choice of dishes available. The service was just enough but not over the top and we were left to take our time instead of being rushed which happens in so many places. We would definitely return for another romantic evening or indeed for a meal with friends and family. The food was fantastic!

“Wonderful but rooms need a remodel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

The view is breathtaking and the restaurant absolutely delicious for a very good value. Nothing was very wrong with our one night stay, except the bed, which was not good at all. The furniture needs an update in the rooms, though the bathroom had clearly been redone recently. Whenever we hear about a refurbishing, we'll come back, and until then we will at the restaurant. Great staff and service, including the waitresses.

“amazing, Amazing, AMAZING”

Being a local and having a lot of Guernsey knowledge made choosing the best venue for our wedding on the 5th August 2011 really difficult.

We decided to take a trip to the Hotel Bon Port. We were greeted by the most incredible view ever. The hotel and grounds over look Guernsey’s Petit Port beach and the nearby cliffs. A view I had taken for granted living in Guernsey for a number of years but was magnificent.

On entering the hotel we were delighted to see a vibrant reception and dining area. Modern, clean, spacious, well decorated with classy looking table arrangements and furnishings. A small bar served draft lager (and one other, possibly a bitter) with a wide array of alcoholic and soft drinks, tea, coffee etc.

I was met by Sean, the new hotel proprietor who is also head chef. He is well supported by the most pleasant team of staff including Mark and John who run front of house operations. Sean instantly made us feel welcome, John and Mark did all they could to help. The management team have pulled the hotel out of any doldrums it had been in a year or two ago.

The run up to the wedding couldn’t have run smoother, all and more of our expectations were met and nothing was too much for these three chaps who were absolutely fantastic, professional, always willing and never without a smile.

The day of the wedding came and little needed to be done as Sean and his team had EVERYTHING under control. The food was absolutely astonishing the waiters and waitresses were faultless and the day was memorable for all the right reasons!

We had also pre-booked a number of rooms in the hotel for the night of the wedding. Our newly decorated bedroom (a sea view room) was equipped with, a large king sized bed, flat screen television and DVD player, kettle, tea and coffee, hairdryer, soaps and shampoos etc. The room was clean, modern and well presented, with a table and chairs and more than plenty of space. It had its own balcony which is well worth paying the extra money for, waking up to that view is breath taking.

The hotel has its own road therefore no passing traffic, sits on the edge of the cliff with easy access to the beaches below. It is without doubt in my opinion the nicest located hotel in Guernsey with the very best views.

The pool is 20 meters from the reception door and is kitted out with sun loungers if you wish. This too overlooks the below bay if you want to take in the view when sun bathing or swimming.

One other feature worth a mention which is a really nice touch is the added bonus of the outdoor Fire-Pits. For a very fair price a vast selection of meat and fish is bought to your fire-pit. You are able to sit around the pit (of which there were two) sipping your favorite drinks while either the food is cooked in front of you or you can give it a try yourself. Each comfortable steel, cushioned garden chair comes with a blanket but for the colder evenings or for privacy or feeling of coziness the sides of each pergola can be closed.

It is also of note that my wife and I had previously been for an evening meal at the Hotel bon Port. The serivce once again was exceptional, the food was out of this world. I ate fresh sea bass while my wife took the vegitarian option. The price was exceptional for the service and food provided.

We are already looking at booking a 50th birthday next year! Can’t wait to do the the Hotel Bon Port again.

As is the hotel slogan, without question, “the only thing the hotel overlooks is the bay”

Room Tip: Try and take advantage of the sea view rooms, equipped with balcony if possible!

“Good and will get a lot better!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011 via mobile

We are a family of 4 and stayed here for a week in one of the self-catering 'cottages'.

The cottages are not good being honest but don't let that put you off staying at the hotel.

The new owners / leaseholders are doing a great job after years of mid-management and really deserve to make it a success.

The reception area, restaurant, outside patio and pool area are great and the views are amazing. Best of all is the service. If you have kids they will be treated especially well - just ask for Boris and hid card tricks and napkin folding skills!!

The fresh fish menu is good - we ate sea bass and lobster and both were good.

The friendliness of the place made it for us - they genuinely wanted to please, and offers us all sorts of advice and help which was very much appreciated.

The self catering bit was poor but the new owners I think know this and are planning future improvements. As soon as they do we will be there. They've done the hotel front, they've apparently done most of the rooms but need time to do the rest.

Overall we will be back - for the view, the service and the friendliness!

“Our best holiday ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

Our stay at the Bon Port Hotel in Guersney was amazing. We stayed in a self catering cottage with use of all the hotel facilities. What made this our best holiday ever was the incredible staff who worked there. The hotel has recently been taken over by a lovely couple who with the help of their friendly staff went out of their way to make our holiday welcoming and nothing was too much trouble..

On one of the days we had been swimming in their fabulous pool overlooking a very beautiful bay and then wanted to go down the beach but our towels were wet. I asked if they could dry them for us and John the hotel manager said he would wash and dry them and gave us clean towels to take down to the beach. What a service!

One evening we had a scrumptious BBQ sitting on the terrace around a Jamie Oliver fire pit. The chef and hotel owner Shaun had prepared the food including all the salads and started the cooking off for us. It was then handed over to us to finish off whilst relaxing under a beautiful gazebo in comfortable chairs looking out across the bay. We kept Shaun talking and he eneded up cooking the whole lot for us! It was delicious. When it got a bit colder later after the sun had gone down the hotel staff brought out lovely warm blankets to snuggle under.

We had our dog with us and he really enjoyed the long walks along the cliff paths and swimming in the clear blue sea down the steps from the hotel. A lot of the beaches in Guernsey don't allow dogs from May to September between 8am-6pm. This beach was not only dog friendly but the kids had a great time rock pooling and swiiming in the sea.

At the end of our week we had had such a wonderful time that we really didn't want to go home. We asked the hotel if we could stay on for a bit longer which we did and they sorted out changing our ferry times at no extra cost. But like all good things our holiday had to come to an end but we can't wait until we can come back again.

We highly recommend The Bon Port for anyone who wants a relaxing easy holiday with the family in a warm and friendly hotel. It was a real treat to stay there.
