Being a local and having a lot of Guernsey knowledge made choosing the best venue for our wedding on the 5th August 2011 really difficult.
We decided to take a trip to the Hotel Bon Port. We were greeted by the most incredible view ever. The hotel and grounds over look Guernsey’s Petit Port beach and the nearby cliffs. A view I had taken for granted living in Guernsey for a number of years but was magnificent.
On entering the hotel we were delighted to see a vibrant reception and dining area. Modern, clean, spacious, well decorated with classy looking table arrangements and furnishings. A small bar served draft lager (and one other, possibly a bitter) with a wide array of alcoholic and soft drinks, tea, coffee etc.
I was met by Sean, the new hotel proprietor who is also head chef. He is well supported by the most pleasant team of staff including Mark and John who run front of house operations. Sean instantly made us feel welcome, John and Mark did all they could to help. The management team have pulled the hotel out of any doldrums it had been in a year or two ago.
The run up to the wedding couldn’t have run smoother, all and more of our expectations were met and nothing was too much for these three chaps who were absolutely fantastic, professional, always willing and never without a smile.
The day of the wedding came and little needed to be done as Sean and his team had EVERYTHING under control. The food was absolutely astonishing the waiters and waitresses were faultless and the day was memorable for all the right reasons!
We had also pre-booked a number of rooms in the hotel for the night of the wedding. Our newly decorated bedroom (a sea view room) was equipped with, a large king sized bed, flat screen television and DVD player, kettle, tea and coffee, hairdryer, soaps and shampoos etc. The room was clean, modern and well presented, with a table and chairs and more than plenty of space. It had its own balcony which is well worth paying the extra money for, waking up to that view is breath taking.
The hotel has its own road therefore no passing traffic, sits on the edge of the cliff with easy access to the beaches below. It is without doubt in my opinion the nicest located hotel in Guernsey with the very best views.
The pool is 20 meters from the reception door and is kitted out with sun loungers if you wish. This too overlooks the below bay if you want to take in the view when sun bathing or swimming.
One other feature worth a mention which is a really nice touch is the added bonus of the outdoor Fire-Pits. For a very fair price a vast selection of meat and fish is bought to your fire-pit. You are able to sit around the pit (of which there were two) sipping your favorite drinks while either the food is cooked in front of you or you can give it a try yourself. Each comfortable steel, cushioned garden chair comes with a blanket but for the colder evenings or for privacy or feeling of coziness the sides of each pergola can be closed.
It is also of note that my wife and I had previously been for an evening meal at the Hotel bon Port. The serivce once again was exceptional, the food was out of this world. I ate fresh sea bass while my wife took the vegitarian option. The price was exceptional for the service and food provided.
We are already looking at booking a 50th birthday next year! Can’t wait to do the the Hotel Bon Port again.
As is the hotel slogan, without question, “the only thing the hotel overlooks is the bay”
Room Tip: Try and take advantage of the sea view rooms, equipped with balcony if possible!
