“An attractive friendly and independent small hotel with generally good service and food”
We spent a week on B & B basis. Hotel in west of island in pleasant village setting, easy to find. Room at back of hotel (but no noise) a little dated and with squeaky floor but clean and spacious with large modern bathroom. Comfortable bed, slept very well. Terrible TV reception on BBC1/2 and ITV 3/4 but this didn't worry us. Attractive garden and large patio used for al fresco dining.
Attractive beamed bar and eating areas in old part of building (watch out for low beams). Bar popular with locals as well as tourists with 2 real ales from mainland UK changed every 3-4 days but a shame there were no local island beers eg Randalls. Dinner popular with visitors as well as guests, reserve a table at breakfast time. Good choice of cooked breakfast dishes and excellent wet and dry fruit salads. Wide range of fish, meat and vegetarian dinner dishes of generally excellent quality and quantity with occasional slips eg unripe avocado, salad totally smothered in dressing. Excellent sandwiches provided on request on a Sunday evening. A good reasonably priced wine list.
Lady owner very welcoming and helpful with suggestions for sightseeing, walks etc. Staff appeared to be a mix of UK students plus Eastern European and French. Service in general very good, friendly and efficient. A couple of lapses at busy times with a 25 min wait for toast and a 25 min wait for drinks at dinner. And the blonde 'front of house' lady escorting you to your table could try smiling at times.
Internet access available in the lounge area, no trouble in getting connected.
Requested newspapers delivered each morning except the first.
Overall a very pleasant independent hotel with generally good service, food and drink.
