“A very pleasant stay”

Three night break for me and the fed up wife (fed up with winter, not me). A clean very welcoming hotel that gave exellent value for money. The rooms were small but had everything that you could want. The staff could not have been more helpful and were very willing to give advice on where & when to go. Full English breakfast was well cooked and well presented, evening & lunch meals in the new "Bistro" were cooked to perfection and produced in very quick time. The owner has great plans to develope the hotel but this will take time and money. If all the plans come to pass I would expect the star rating to go up a long way.

“Oh Dear”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

We booked this hotel mainly because it was reasonable and there were four of us. It is in a pretty location but that's where it ends.
The bedroom smelt damp and the beds were awful, so uncomfortable it was painful. The sink was in the room and not in the 'bathroom' which was a little odd to say the least. The milkman delivering the next morning was not a joy, he left his van running outside our window and was very loud. The staff also were quite loud outside early.
Because the building is old you could hear everything in the room above. There were not enough towels/tea making bits in the room. The room was dark and badly in need of decoration. The carpet was quite frankly, minging. Ugh.
The 'full english' was not that and most of it was deep fried, horrible. The swimming pool was filthy and there was no way it could've been used.
The downstairs to the hotel was quite quaint but very warm. The staff we came across were polite and friendly.
I would not stay here again or recommend it.

My husband and I took over the hotel took in January of this year and recognise the need for some minor refurbishment. As a result of this we put forward special offers throughout the summer in order to ensure the rates given where reflective of the rooms available. This family of four paid a rate, in peak season, of less than £25 per person per night bed and breakfast. We have checked with many other hotels in Jersey and believe this to be the cheapest rate on the island at that time. The family arrived just at a time when Jersey had some very serious rain storms. As a result of these rain storms, as happens with outdoor pools much debris and rainwater washed into the pool. We immediately sought our normal professional help to make sure the swimming pool was clear and ready for use as soon as possible. Our cooked breakfasts are not deep fried and at the B&B rate they received, is exceptionally good value. In fact we have never received another complaint. Our standard hotel breakfast consists of cereal, fruit juice, tea or coffee, toast and a cooked breakfast including grilled tomato, fried egg, fried sausages, grilled bacon, baked beans and deep fried hash brown. We do not consider this to be a deep fried breakfast. We are very disappointed with our customers comments as they did not inform us of any problems with either the breakfast, the room or the swimming pool during their stay. We hope this does not damage our good reputation as we are trying to grow the business and are trying to give as good a service provision as we can.

“Great place to stay, friendly, clean, excellent food, comfortable rooms”

Perfect of you want a friendly quiet place to stay away from the expensive hotels in St Helier and in the more tourist locations. The rooms are simple and not five star, but nor is the price. Showers work, beds are comfortable and rooms are clean. Tea and coffee facilities and a TV that is perhaps 1990's, but works.

Jason the chef provides great food at reasonable prices and his daily specials are excellent, lamb chops to perfection. Breakfast is freshly cooked, nothing fancy.

“A lovely stay with great food”

We had a lovely stay and would recommend this hotel. The children enjoyed the woodland walk whilst my husband played golf. The breakfast and evening meals were fantastic and excellent value, definitely the best steak I have had in a very long time. The welcome was warm.

“great little hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2009

We have stayed at The Wheatlands in 2007 but we came here in 2006,2005,2003 & 2002 we stayed eleswhere this year (2008) bad idea!!! It is nice to stay somewhere that is on a quiet lane, the setting is wonderful and im sure if you are a golf player the hotel will be perfect. Rooms are clean and tidy, breakfast is very good and the staff could not be more friendly. Carol the owner is very approachable too. Has a large bar which is very comfy. We have taken our two dogs each year and that has never been a problem, nor the fact that my husband leaves at 4.30am to go kayak fishing, nothing is a problem with the owners and staff here.
