“Excellent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2009

Reading some of the reviews I wonder if I was staying at the same place or was it a case of poor weather affecting folk but we had no problems with the facilities .
.My wife and I had an excellent two weeks in Fairholme with no problems with our room, there were excellent meals morning/evening with plenty of choice and a bar. Helpful advice was available to all the guests of whatever nationality. Nothing was too much trouble. We hope to stay there in the future .Perhaps we were just lucky with the weather but I do not really think so.We would recomend to any one as an excellent Value for Money Guesthouse 5 mins walk from St Helier.

“Our lovely stay at The Fairholme”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2009

A really pleasant family run guest house. Staff and owners were friendly and full of great advice on how to enjoy our holiday on Jersey. Especially loved the lobster dinner. Our holiday was about getting out and about in Jersey, which Marina (owner) helped us plan so we made the most of our weeks stay. It's such good value. Will be back and recommend others to stay.

“Unsatisfactory Stay”

My partner and I stayed for just under a week at the Fairholme Guest House and were pleased at first, we felt that we were staying in a comfortable place, where we would receive the great service any holiday maker deserves.
After arriving early, we waited in the small lounge area until we could go to our room. After a reasonable amount of time waiting we were led to our room and were greeted by warn carpets, faded bedsheets with holes in them, and an en suite with what looked like an ex public toilet. After being left to explore the room, we found that the shower took a long time to heat up and even then it was only slightly warm and the flow of water was more of a trickle. Furthermore, the bathroom floor tiles were wobbly and with no room to swing a cat I often found myself catching my toes on the wobbling tile in order to avoid walking into the sink.
Facilities within the room were not satisfactory either, as the kettle was burnt on the inside and still had water in it from the previous guests.
The pillows provided were flat, and the only two that helped to possibly bring a decent nights sleep were taken from our room and never returned.
Cleaning and maintenance was not taken as seriously as it should have been!

After two further experiences that I feel are unnecessary to mention our stay at the guest house had reached its end, which my partner and I were happy about.
Being treated like we were after one experience was terrible, and I feel upset that we did not get treated well by our "hosts" and the care and support was not there.
Money is clearly all that matters here.

I would not recommend this place to anyone, and I agree with the previous comment that the guest house owners have become very complacent and are not providing a good service at all.
The only good service we received was by one other member of staff, who was very helpful.

My partner and I were very disappointed!

Excellent breakfast cooked to order and different each day. We had a great choice of 4 different breakfast each day. the evening dinner was excellent and the Jersey Royals were such a lovely treat.
> the location is excellent only 5 minute walk to the town centre and just a few minutes more to the bus station but we used bus number 18 which passed the end of the road and took us direct to Liberation station, the owner recommmended that we by a bus pass for the week and so we could just jump on busses alll day long anbd this saved us some money. This was our first trip to Jersey so didnt know what to expect but the owner gave us soo much info on Jersey that we didnt miss a thing.
>
> Our room was lovely with a big window and a comfy double bed and plenty of hot water and spotlessly clean with our towels changed regularly, and a well stocked tea tray which was filled up every day.
> Decor is traditional - if you want modern go to a 4 star hotel if you want home from home and the freindliest team to look after you - stay at the fairholme - i hope we will be back next year. (ps we are in our 50's)
Owner very friendly and helpful - nothing too much trouble for her.

“WHAT A NIGHTMARE.........”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2008

The chefs greasy apron and the burnt tomatoes served up for breakfast helped us make the decision not to stay at the Fairholme for dinner!!
The decor was more than tired with dirty window sills, rusty bathroom accessories and a bathroom window that wouldn't open(and there wasn't an extractor fan).We did have access to a kettle but had to boil it on the floor which might be dangerous if you've got youngsters as might also the huge gap under the thresher that lies between the bedroom and bahroom. However, when the proprietors didn't take seriously an incident where strangers let themselves into our room when we were sleeping,we became very worried about the security of our belongings and our personal safety. We hope that by posting this comment we can save others from having their holiday ruined by owners who have become more than complacent and need to raise their standards considerably.,

  • Liked — COMING HOME!!!
  • Disliked — HAVING TO RETURN EVERY EVENING TO SLEEP THERE!!
