We had two apartments next to each other for our family of 4 adults and child. They were clean, well appointed and a good size. There was always parking spaces available and the staff were friendly and very helpful. We did find the bedding a bit hot but this can be easily rectified. There is a building site behind at the moment - but I can honestly say we didn't really notice it. As with many places on Jersey it is a bit dated but it is an honest and comfortable retreat at the end of the day. Ideal location for us visiting relatives nearby but note you'd probably want to get a taxi back up from the centre in the evenings!

Just got back from 4 nights in the Uplands Hotel. Really enjoyed our stay and all the staff were more than helpful. Restaurant staff couldnt do enough for you and the food was excellent. The bar didnt seem to get used much by the residents - could perhaps do with some background music instead of the tv being on BBC news all the time. Hotel is really clean and comfortable but perhaps the bedding could be updated to duvets instead of sheets and blankets!! We stayed in Room 51 which had a walk in shower and overlooked the pool area. Our first stay in Jersey and we would certainly stay here again.

I cannot imagine who gives this hotel such good reviews. Those plus the PR photos misled me into booking ten days there this month. In reality it is drab, unattractive and only the friendliness of the staff made us stay. Even so, we never felt there was a general manager in charge. It is poorly located on a busy B road, and the walk down the hill is alongside it. It only takes 20 minutes to get down into town but it can be a struggle back, and you would not want to do it in the evening after a meal. The pool looks great on the PR photos but it is cramped between two accommodation blocks and the drive way. Three picnic tables and nine loungers for 100 guests. The garden is a joke. Small patch of grass behind a block with a mill stone in the centre and a large oil tank on te side. No walkways or seating. The food was well cooked but the menu was so unadventurous. Typical pub grub, same menu each week and same vegetables every day - even with a curry. How many Jersey Royals can a person eat! The room (31) was clean but very shabby; the metal window frames covered in black mould and mould on damp wall. Clean but frayed towels and stained carpet. The nine channel 60's CRT could only produce three channels and one of them (ITV) was too snowy to watch. All in all, if you want to spend time in St Hellier, try another hotel. It shows all the signs of needing TLC and a better level of investment.

recently returned from a 4 night stay: reception & restaurant staff excellant-very friendly & extremely helpful. Hotel itself is clean & comfortable, but a little outdated-can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that had sheets & blankets on the bed! Our room was a good size with plenty of storage, good shower in bathroom too. Breakfast was good, never had dinner as we prefer to eat out, but there wasn't much of an atmosphere in the hotel in the evenings, in fact we were the only ones in the bar while waiting for a taxi into town. We got a taxi to town & back each night, & had some really good meals, in particular AD LIB, near the hospital. Jersey is a lovely island, we had a good break away, good weather probably helped, would recommend it to families & the retired especially.
