“We really loved the washington hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2007

The washington hotel was excellent value for money. We stayed all inclusive. Our room was large, clean and tidy. The food was wonderfull, especially the breakfast, with such a large selection and as much as you wanted to eat. The evening meal was 5 courses, with a choice of menus and even a vegetarian alternative. We really recommend this hotel and will be going back next year.

“Was good, but now a possible health hazard?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2007

I stayed in this hotel during the summer of last year. It was a little old fashioned, but the staff were efficient, and the hotel itself is situated in a nicely quiet road 10 minutes stroll from the centre of St.Helier.

I had intended to rebook this year. However it's come to my attention that the hotel - a simple 3 storey building - is now in the process of placing 3 mobile phone masts, 6 mobile phone antenna and a dish on the roof. If you're a guest on the upper floor, that rather large nest of electronic emitters will be roughly just 10 feet above your head. I'm fully aware of the dangers to health of such mobile phone technology, so I will never be staying at the Washington again.

I find it rather disturbing that the Hotel have kept this particular aspect of 'redevelopment' quiet, thus effectively removing any choice from those guests not wanting to be spend their holiday directly beneath a selection of mobile phone transmitters, signal boosters and receivers

Shame on you Washington, I would love to have returned this year, but until you lose those mobile phone masts, you've lost this customer.

That said, If the health issues related to mobile phone masts are not of a worry to you, I wouldn't hesistate to reccomend the Washington. It really is a nice, clean (if somewhat dated) Hotel, good for the older guest who's after 1980's style cabaret entertainment at night.

If I had reviewed the hotel after my stay last year (before I knew tripadvisor existed!), I would have rated it probably 4 stars from the point of view of an older guest (I personally think it would be a little 'fuddy-duddy' for the younger generations!). However, in light of the mobile phone mast development, I'm giving them the lowest grade possible.

  • Liked — Friendly and attentive staff, good cabaret
  • Disliked — The recent addition of a multitutde of mobile phone masts to the building.

“Good value accommodation at the Washington”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2005

The hotel is well situated, being far enough out of town to be quiet but accessible enough, about 15 minutes stroll from the harbour and a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport (fare £11.00).
The appearance of the hotel on first impressions seems a little dated, but not in any way tatty.
The reception we recieved was welcoming, efficient and informative and
the staff were friendly and helpful.
We were allocated a ground floor room overlooking the pool which was perfectly adequate although again the decor and fittings are in need of updating.
There is a a small bar area, a conservatory, a pleasant lounge and a games room with pool table.
The pool is small but pleasantly situated in a quiet enclosed garden with sunloungers and tables and chairs where you can take your drinks from the bar.
There was twice weeky entertainment in the form of a soloist musician who was quite good.
The breakfasts were nice with a choice of variations of the full English and a limited supply of cold ham & cheese with fresh rolls & croissants together with the usual cerials, dried fruits, yogurts etc.
Dinner was table d' hote style with a choice of four starters, soup or sorbet , four mains and three sweets or cheese & buscuits.
The quality and presentation of the food was good and the service in the restaurant was efficient.
All in all we had a pleasant experience at this hotel and would recommend it.
