“Ant and Tobacco Smells”

The one good thing about this place is the restaurant. Although the food was decidedly average, the restaurant staff were excellent and always worked hard to please. The room was appalling. I think the island has been left behind a bit in the hotel stakes, and what we have come to expect on the mainland as a minimum standard is nothing short of opulence here. The room stank of cigarette smoke and the second day saw an infestation of ants. I photographed the shower head and the waste of the shower tray - that's always a pretty good indication of the standard of a hotel. The pool looked grubby and not well attended to. I wouldn't have gone in it even if the weather had been kinder. My recommendation - well, never again!!

“Great Place”

My husband and I have just come back from staying at the Washington Hotel. We had a 7day stay there. After reading conflicting reports on the hotel we were more that pleased that our stay was so good.
The staff are all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was 1st class with a very good and varied menu every night. Very well presented and cooked to perfection.
We did hear a rumour that this hotel might be closing later this year. we sincerely hope this not to be the case, as we would have no hesitation in going back. As it was we met two couples on a return visit. One being a gap of 14 years and the other a gap of 3o years both still thought it was a nice place to say. Yes the decor is a bit dated but on the plus side all bed linen was clean, the beds very large and comfortable and rooms, dining room and other parts of the hotel are very clean.

“value holiday”

We booked this 7 day holiday following an advert in the daily mail.
It offered 7 days for the price of 5.
It was good value as the hotel was first class and the food was excellent.
The hotel was located 15 mins walk from the town centre and the parking was adequate. ( cars were moved to accomodate the numbers)
We travelled by sea-cat, taking the car. "Drivers Map" was the most helpful.
We found plenty to do on the island and had a very enjoyable time.

“Hated this hotel”

As we stayed in Jersey for our honeymoon my husband decided to book a return holiday for our silver wedding. Unfortunately The Monterey where we stayed 25 years ago was fully booked as he left it to the last minute. All hopes of a romantic holiday disappeared when I saw the "We sell John Smiths" on a blackboard outside the hotel. The hotel was dated, tatty and had a distinct smell of stale smoke in the corridor. The room furnishings were mainly formica and the bathroom flooring was some sort of marble effect plywood. The breakfasts were reasonable but sometimes the croissants, bread rolls etc seemed in short supply if you weren't there at the beginning. We were blessed with excellent weather and therefore spent as little time as possible in the hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It nearly caused a divorce and not a silver wedding celebration

  • Liked — Some of the breakfasts
  • Disliked — the general run down tackiness of the hotel

“We really loved the washington hotel”

The washington hotel was excellent value for money. We stayed all inclusive. Our room was large, clean and tidy. The food was wonderfull, especially the breakfast, with such a large selection and as much as you wanted to eat. The evening meal was 5 courses, with a choice of menus and even a vegetarian alternative. We really recommend this hotel and will be going back next year.
