“Enjoyed our stay.”

After reading some of the reviews of this hotel we were apprehensive and even thought of cancelling our holiday, however we were delighted with everything about this hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the food was excellent, the staff efficient and very helpful. We would recommend this hotel to anybody and would definately return ourselves. The Knock Shrine is a pleasant, 10-15 minute walk away.

“not as bad as previous reviewers stated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2008

stayed in this hotel for a wedding! Its not as bad as previous reviewers state, however there are a few things that could be improved. The foyer and reception area are lovely and very welcoming, as are the reception staff, who were working during our stay.
we ate the wedding meal at this hotel and it was excellent, offering extra portions for the main meal..staff were lovely serving the meal aswell.
The exterior of the hotel is lovely, however the bedrooms may not be of taste to certain people..What is with the flowery wallpaper??? which was falling off the wall, in certain places of my room. The doors of the bedrooms seem to bring me back to the 1970's world...whatever happened to firedoors or wooden doors???
Overall, its a nice hotel to stay in, with welcoming staff.

  • Liked — the staff
  • Disliked — the wallpaper...remove it, before people go colour blind!!

“hell on earth”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2008

this is the most appalling hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay at avoid like the plague.

staff were rude and ignorant have never heard that the customer is always right we were refused a prebooked meal the night before wedding we were attending on the grounds of local football team taking precendence in restaraunt over mere paying guests

Rooms varied from ok in honeymoon suite little shabby to downright frightening in basic twin room i found a pubic hair on my sheets slept with pyjamas tucked into socks and waited for daylight to come

“A pleasant surprise”

I booked this hotel for accommodation for a pilgrimage as the other hotel was fully booked. I was a bit apprehensive as the general standard in Knock, either for staying or eating out, is not great. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel.
The decor is a bit dated and shabby in places but if you can overlook that you'll see a clean, warm and comfortable place to stay. We stayed one night and for 89 euros each we had dinner, bed and breakfast. The dinner was lovely, very tasty and lots of veg! The breakfast was a bit basic, no fresh fruit or rolls/croissants but was satisfactory.
There is a lift but it isn't easily accessible to all rooms, if you have mobility problems ask for a room beside the lift, there are quite a few stairs.
I didn't use the steam room/jacuzzi etc so can't comment on that.
The most impressive aspect of this hotel is the staff. I had to change our booking twice and it was no problem. They are friendly, very helpful and are a big asset to the hotel. I hope the owners recognise this!
All in all it was a great stay, we all slept well as the road beside us seemed quiet and we will be back!

  • Liked — The friendly staff who were so helpful and the comfortable rooms
  • Disliked — The decor, our wallpaper was a bit mad.
