“Excellent Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here for one night and were overall impressed with this hotel.

Service of the staff was possibly the best Ive ever encountered . Nothing was too much trouble and everything we could have wanted was anticipated. In the restairant my wife had to send back the beef to be cooked a little more to her liking which took 5 minutes and she mentioned that her side veg. might be only luke warm by the time she got it back. However without even asking a fresh plate of veg. arrived out. I asked for the bill at the end of the meal just to assign it to our room and was told that they knew which room we were and there was no need to sign anything. Little touches like that are what made the stay special.

The only negatives I had was that the room , which a good size and nicely decorated , was very draughty . I wouldnt have fancied it last winter.

Another positive/negative , depending on your point of view (positive for me) , was the lack of Phone and Internet coverage . Was possible but a lot of black spots in the hotel.

Overall a very enjoyable "away from it all stay "

“Very homely and a great atmosphere”

We visited Rathsallagh for a winter break, and were blown away by the experience.
The interior of the house is as quaint and charming as the exterior suggests; we loved the way the accommodation feels like the interior of a family home and not at all like an exclusive hotel.
Our room was comfortable and cosy - I'm a bit jealous to be honest! We actually saw two rooms, and each room seems to have it's own unique personality. Our room also had a nice selection of coffee-table books that made a pleasant change from vegetating in front of the television. What our room lacked in "modernity" or "technology" as found in many hotels, it more than made up for in homeliness, simplicity, original and quaint features and above all - comfort. The soul of the room, and the building, is something that cannot be matched by a conventional hotel.
There is a small bar, and some public drawing rooms where guests can relax by the open fire. I can definitely recommend walking the grounds and gardens - there is plenty of space for golfers and non-golfers alike to enjoy the fresh air without ever leaving the estate.
We ate breakfast, dinner and Sunday lunch in the dining room and were impressed by the menu, the food and the service. The kitchen are proud to use local produce where possible. The staff are friendly and attentive, and we wanted for nothing. There is a wonderfully personal service in the dining room, with the Chef stopping to chat with the guests during Sunday lunch service.

We will definitely return here in the future (I'm just trying to find an excuse!)

Room Tip: Over-Arch does get a bit of traffic noise. This didn't bother us, but may bother a light sleeper...

Thank you for as great review. It is really wonderful when a guest manages to feel the soul of Rathsallagh and gets totally immersed as you did. We like to say Rathsallagh House " Not a Hotel " and again you found that essence in the place. We are glad you found the drawing rooms, for some reason "presently surprised" below missed them, this is where our residents can relax in comfort by our real log and turf fires. We look forward to your next visit and why not ask for one of the outer court yard rooms next time , the are very quiet and nearly 50sqm in size with double ended baths and walk in multi jet showers. Thanks again for a really lovely review. From all at Rathsallagh

“Stunning venue for a perfect wedding day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We held an intimate family wedding in Rathsallagh House in early January and we could not have asked for a more perfect day. From the minute we arrived, we were so warmly welcomed and everything seemed to flow with such ease throughout the day.

Venue: The setting for wedding blessing in the “Orangery” was perfect for our wedding for 70 guests. The room was full of natural light and the vaulted ceiling emphasized the amazing voice and harp of Orla Fallon. The dining reception room was well organised, which allowed for the tables to be placed close together during the meal, and later for the band and DJ to fill the dance floor.

Food: Each course was of an exceptional standard and of very generous proportions. Guests were offered seconds of the amazing beef, not that anyone was going hungry. Our guests were equally impressed by the variety and quality of the food and juices presented for breakfast.

Service & Staff: The service was discreet but extremely attentive at all times. The wedding coordinators and house staff were constantly present throughout the day and evening to assist us in any way possible. The dining staff cheerfully catered specific requests throughout the meal. The bar staff were equally accommodating throughout the night and did an exceptional job attending to the guests. Following the wedding service, Mr Joe O’Flynn, the owner of Rathsallagh House, personally presented my wife and I with a glass of champagne and he and his mother were the first to offer us congratulations and well wishes.

Overall experience: Rathsallagh House is a gorgeous venue with character filled rooms, brilliant food, and staff who went out of their way to make our wedding one that will be raved about both in Ireland and Australia. The stunning grounds provided a superb backdrop for wedding photographs.

We would like to thank everyone at Rathsallagh House in making our wedding day so unforgettable. The venue and staff exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend Rathsallagh House to anyone considering it as a wedding venue. Our only one regret with the whole experience is that the day seemed to be over far too quickly!

From Avril and Darren.

Dear Avril and Darren
Thank you for a super review. We are simply thrilled that Rathsallagh worked its magic for you on your wedding day. What a great atmosphere there was about the place that day, a great mix of Irish and Australian guests. Orla is amazing on the harp isn't she, really beautiful singing voice as well. We hope it will not be to long before you are back to visit us again, and until that time we wish you both long life and happiness. From all at Rathsallagh.

“A Pleasant Surprise..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed on a package deal for a standard B&B which included €30 dinner voucher and two glasses of champagne. We were pleasantly surprised when we were shown to our room as it was not a standard room. We stayed in the Kilbarry room which was more like the honeymoon suite. We had our own private lounge with fireplace. The room was huge, clean and the bed very comfortable. We called reception to help us with lighting our fireplace and the owner of the hotel arrived 5 min later and got the fire started. The dinner and the service were good. A special mention to the restaurant manageress who made sure we were well looked after the whole evening.

Breakfast was ok, the usual buffet with self service on everything except the eggs. The hotel and the grounds are well looked after. A definate warm welcoming farm feel to the place.

The only negatives were the bar area was not the most comfortable and on checking out the next morning, a few discrepancies on our bill. However the receptionist was very helpful and sorted the mistakes out quickly and efficiently.

“A perfect wedding with memories to treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

From the first day we visited Rathsallagh to check it out as a wedding venue, we felt at home and didn't want to leave. It is a magical place, only an hour for Dublin and situated in rolling green countryside, with beautiful landscaped gardens. The wedding planner Catherine and her team worked with us to personalise our wedding. Their attention to detail, very professional but "no fuss manner" really helped to make the planning a really enjoyable experience for us. Nothing was a problem. The O'Flynn family, Joes Senior and Junior were also on hand to attend to our every need. They gave a real Irish welcome to all our guests and welcomed our dog Milly and horses Wayne and Ruby as if they were part of their family. We spent three wonderful days at the house. They facilitated us to ride in to the reception on our horses and for wayne to show off his dressage skills!! The eve of the wedding we had an intimate dinner for family and close friends. The day of the wedding Catherine and the team were on hand to attend to our every need. The wedding ceremony was in the beautiful Dining Room in the Main House followed by a champagne reception in the walled gardens. The wedding reception was in the permanent marquee, the candlelight tables and the lights in the surrounding trees made the atmosphere magical. The food and wine were exceptional, the staff really pulled out all the stops. We had a bar-b-que in the golf club- house the day after the wedding and again the food and service was great and we partied well into the night! Our guests are still talking about the venue and returned visits are planned and that speaks volumes. I can't recommend Rathsallagh enough, the O'Flynn family and staff opened their home and their hearts and made us feel as if we were the only couple getting married there this year. Thank you Rathsallagh Celine and Greg

Hi Celine and Greg. Thank you for writing a great review, we will never forget your wedding here, you were all such great fun and gracious to a tee. It was probably one of the more unusual weddings we have had with the two of you riding to your reception on horse back, what a wonderful sight that was. The weather was very kind to us all at the time and the Walled Garden did provide a beautiful setting for your reception. We are all absolutely thrilled that Rathsallagh worked its magic for you, every wedding we have here is unique and very special to us and yours was no exception. We wish you both long life and happiness , our door is always open here for you all, and that includes Milly Wayne and Ruby,. Thank you. From Joe and all at Rathsallagh
