“A hotel with ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

If you enjoy a rare opportunity to experience a hotel with ambience, don't miss Hunter's. This hotel, or coaching inn (probably the correct label) belongs to a breed that is becoming increasingly rare. Old woodwork and polished brass. In the same family for generations and maintained and run with precious, loving affection, both building and gardens, this is a place without stress. If I had been a writer, I would have moved in and never moved out. Afternoon teas in the garden are a memory. The restaurant is good, honest and home cooked. Coffees (or Tea) in the Morning Room in front to the fireplace is difficult to equal in coziness. The bar is the kind of friendly place that encourages you to meet new friends in the absence of background music, and the owner is parked behind the bar, of course. Hunter's is one of those places to remember and creates memories. They have installed limited WiFi too for the convenience of guests, which was a good idea.
I've stayed here now at least a dozen times.
Every time it's an effort to leave to go back home.
But I shall return.

Room Tip: The rooms with a garden view are the most stunning. I discovered that if I let Hunter's know ahe...

“The best of flavour of Ireland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Lovely old hotel that has changed in decades. The food is simple and excellent, grown locally or in the hotels large gardens. Beautiful gardens with tea or lunch served on the lawns. Wonderful calm bedrooms. The place to spend a week with some good books and daily visits to the gardens and stately homes in the area. Very kind and helpful service too. This hotel is a well gaurded secret!

“OK food but not great value”

The Hunter's hotel is certainly in a nice location and does haves a charming ambience. We did not stay here but ate in the restaurant. The food was OK rather than great and certainly nothing out of the ordinary. Given that the Hunter's is expensive, one would expect better for the money. One of us is vegetarian, and there was no reduction in price despite the lack of meat, so it's particularly bad value for vegetarians.

“A wonderful lunch in a charming setting”

We had the most beautiful lunch in Hunters - from beginning to end we were so well looked after and accommodated. We had a toddler with us and every effort was made to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was amazing and excellent value and the service was prompt and friendly. I would highly recommend this wonderful place and the fabulous gardens are the perfect place to help walk off those calories!

“Wicklow's best”

The moment you walk into Hunter's you realise that you are somewhere unique and very special. The crisp white linen in the Dining Room, the bar with the photo of the first car in Ireland, the wonderful garden with the famous sign, the vegetable garden with it's scarecrow staright out of Beatrix Potter, and the peaceful setting. This historic inn, which was the half way stopping off point for horses travelling south from Dublin to Wexford and beyond is a glorious piece of history. Many guests are the grand or great grandchildren of their family who have been going here for generations.
The breakfast is cooked to order, perfectly presented, no frills , but wonderful taste.
A very special piece of Irish history to be enjoyed and savoured !
