“Just slightly disappointed!”

Spent one night in Tinakilly. Having attended a wedding there in 2010 and stayed overnight I had an idea what to expect. Mostly enjoyed the experience but a few things spoilt it. Asked for a seaview room but was told none available even though the hotel did not seem to be terribly busy (there was a wedding on but it seemed quite a small one). I understand my red Ribbon Voucher did not cover a sea view but I would have paid the extra if it had been offered. Two glasses of Prosecco which were part of the deal were never mentioned and never offered until the lovely lady who checked us out offered it but at that stage it was too late as we were heading home. I booked dinner for 8.30 with my original booking. We arrived at the hotel earlier than we had expected (5.30) so I rang Reception to change it to 8.00 to be informed that this was not possible as the Restaurant was fully booked for that time. My husband happened to pass the Restaurant at 7.30 and asked for a menu and noticed that it was practically empty! This is the first time I was unable to change my restaurant booking by a mere 30 minutes in a hotel! When we arrived at 8.30 I think we may have been the last to arrive and there were plenty of free tables. I could not understand this at all! The food was lovely but service a bit slow as both at dinner and breakfast I felt the restaurant was understaffed. We did enjoy our stay but Tinakilly would not be top of my list for a return visit. It is unfortunate that a few little things that can easily be rectified can spoil the experience!

Dear Politetraveler21

I am sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay at Tinakilly.

You are correct in saying that we had a wedding in house and unfortunately they had pre booked all our rooms with sea views which meant on this occasion we were not able to offer you an upgrade which would under normal circumstances always be our policy.

I would be delighted to discuss your experience with you in person should you wish to contact me at the hotel

Yours sincerely

“A Real Treat”

Stayed in March 2011.

Couldn't recommend enough.
Once you find the entrance (overshot twice) you are welcomed by a long drive up to a picturesque Hotel surrounded by acres of beautiful gardens.
The staff couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful, when we arrived we were too late for dinner but were offered sandwiches instead. All the members of staff were efficient and professional.
The bedrooms are ornate, with a reception room before the actual bedroom which was huge, clean and comfy.
Never had breakfast, but the evening meals were beautifully prepared and the dining room was truly grand.

Note really a downside but the gym is only large enough for one treadmill, exercise bike and some weights.

Wicklow itself is a pleasant place. Nel Keenans is a lively pub with an extra room with a dance floor at weekends.
There is a Tesco in town, about 5 minutes drive from the hotel and the laws are different to England as in that no alcohol could be purchased here after 22:00.

All in all a beautiful hotel.

“going back in time where comfort and style was the norm”

when i was told i was going to a historic country house,i expected a lot and i was not dissapointed when i got there, there was talk of a fomous captain and a revolutionary engineer . it transpired the captain was robert halpin (famous for the transatlanticcomunication cable from ierland to canada) and the engineer was brunnel who made the iron clad great eastern boat that did the work.
some of the personnel effects of the captain are on display in one of the magnificent high vaulted rooms.
the house itself is from a bygone era and you cant help from being sucked into the 18th century. open fires very welcoming staff who will look after your every need, if you want peace and quiet and just want to relax ,and maybe walk the land and witness eye popping sunrises. then you cant afford not to visit.

Room Tip: rooms facing east gets you the sunrises you cant afford to miss

“Good escape - no a great escape”

Just back from an overnight in Tinakilly house hotel. Great rooms (loved the robes post my bath!). Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Had early bird dinner in restaurant - very high quality food. Slow braised neck of lamb followed by hake with chirizo, yummy sticky toffee pudding washed down with bottle of sav blanc and coffee. Her indoors had scallops and pork belly followed by terrific smoked duck and home made profiteroles. Less than 100 euro for the dinner and drinks! Superb given the quality of food and service!

Breakfast was equally stunning - choice of different cooked breakfasts - kippers, full Irish etc, also full buffet with great choice of goodies!

Highly recommend it if you need a little time away to escape from the noise of daily life!

“Very relaxing hotel - ok food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My boyfriend and i stayed here for one night in jan 2012 using a lastminute.com deal. we got a junior suite for 100 euro. We really enjoyed the stay - the bedroom was huge and the staff extremely helpful. The hotel itself has a bar and three seperate lounges which is lovely for relaxing. The restaurant was very busy and we could net get a table at our requested time however this was our fault for not booking early. The restaurant menu looks amazing but in my opinion if you have an ostentatious menu then a restaurant needs to deliver superb food. the food was pretty good but definitely not good enough to back up having such a fancy menu. For example the free amuse bouche was tasteless which kind of defeats the whole purpose. Breakfast was fab - great cjoice and lovely food. All in all we really enjoyed it - really relaxing place with huge bedrooms
