Our stay at Humewood Castle was memorable - for all the wrong reasons. We rented the "gate house lodge" and were horribly surprised when we were shown into little more than a shack in exceedingly bad repair with broken windows and dirty carpets. For 300 euros a night, there was no central heating, and the stove which was supposed to provide heat gave off so much smoke we opted to suffer the cold rather than die of carbon monoxide poisoning in the night. On top of all this, we weren't even allowed to look at the castle!!!
