“The Magic of Marlfield”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Exquisite decor, friendly and personable service, beautiful food. Would highly recommend a stay, everything about the experience is excellent, Laura offers a unique approach, she is one of the most helpful, professional and personable people I have ever deal with. We had our wedding in Marlfield in December, we also stayed a number of times throughout the year. We and a number of our guests will be customers for a lifetime, hurry up! Don't miss out on the magic of Marlfield

“Amazing hotel, perfect wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We were married in Marlfield on New Year's Eve 2011 and it couldn't have gone any better. There is nothing to fault here: the building itself is magical, intimate, cozy, elegant and generally irresistible. The staff go so far above & beyond in their efforts to ensure your comfort and happiness, it will stun you. The food at every meal is simply spectacular and a match for any restaurant in Ireland and beyond. The rooms are massive, comfortable and all different. From a wedding perspective, all of our guests have been heaping praise on Marlfield, during the night and continuously ever since. From a hotel perspective, you will not want to leave. We have stayed in many top end 'luxury' hotels and country houses in Ireland and Marlfield is far and away the most memorable experience we have had. It stands out from the crowd and deserves your custom. You won't regret it.

“Can't recommend highly enough!”

We had our wedding here in springtime and couldn't have been more thrilled with all that Marlfield has to offer - fabulous food, beautiful gardens, home-grown veggies and flowers, excellent service, friendly staff and a warm welcoming atmosphere! The state rooms and bridal suite in particular are beautifully decorated and the floral displays, open fires and relaxed old-worldly ambience always make us wish we could stay longer! Highly recommend it!

Room Tip: 1st floor rooms would be quieter

“Beautiful country house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We attended a wedding at this beautiful country house, so we got to see some bedroom suites which were gorgeous, the bridal suite is gargantuan, a bride could easily hide in there if she decided her husband-to-be wasn't to be. The other bedrooms were fine but felt a little like servants' quarters having seen the more opulent versions. The food was average I would say, despite having heard great things. I think the venue is a little cramped for a sizeable wedding party, but still, Marlfield House has great points in its favour as an alternative to the generic wedding venue we are all so bored of. And I would not mind being whisked back there, I hope my husband happens to read this review. Actually he just has and he adds that the drinks are very pricey.

“Overpriced and lacking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed in Marfield for two nights to attend a wedding. Our room was on the ground floor and very noisy which is understandable but it was also freezing and this was in the middle of Summer, this was probably due to open fireplace but should have been blocked up when not in use. The room was very shabby and need updating. There were not enough electical sockets and some had three or four lamps etc. plugged into them which I thought was dangerous.
The setting was beautiful for a wedding and the gardens are lovely but the food was average and service slow, and we received our main course 45 minutes after the first table had finished. We were in the dining room for nearly four hours in total. Breakfast was lovely though and there was a really good choice of food.
I would not recommend the hotel for children as they do not cater for them at all and my niceces and nephews were very bored. Staff were very hit and miss but overall not very friendly except for the French barman who was really lovely and helpful.
Overall I felt Marfield was extremely overpriced and did not live up to its luxury country house billing, we won't be going back.

Room Tip: Make sure you're not on the ground floor
