“Best in Ireland!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

In ten days travel thru the South and West, 8 different B and B's...Nancy's Thatch Cottage is by far the very best. Not only true Irish hospitality, but...the authenic baking over the peat fire, that never seems to go out, to the evening tea and game of scrabble. Our room was beautiful and spotless, with a view of the water and the GOAT! This was our first time in a real cottage and we loved it...also the only place that had face/wash cloths...they aren't popular in Ireland but, Nancy had them. Breakfast was grand too..thanks Nancy..

“Absolutely charming!”

We were seeking the real personality of Ireland - not the big city sameness, but the real character of the country and its people. We found it at Cloch na Scith, that's for sure. This over 200 year old thatched cottage gave us the unique opportunity to stay in a historic home and pretend it was our own. Nancy greeted us each afternoon with a peat fire and a homemade treat (like apple tart - yummy!) and each morning with bread baked over that same peat fire and homemade jams, eggs, bacon - anything we desired. Our rooms were charming and fit the mood of the house, besides being comfortable. A bonus we didn't expect was the view from our bedroom window of Galway Bay - who knew? In the evenings we could sit outside and enjoy the gardens and the view or walk a short distance into Spiddal for dinner or traditional music at a pub. We took lots of pictures of ourselves standing in front of that beautiful cottage with its colorful window boxes! This is an area with a lot to offer tourists, and Cloch na Scith adds the true Irish cultural experience. We would stay here again and again.

Room Tip: Ask for the one that overlooks Galway Bay.

“Great location, historical cottage”

My husband and I and my sister and her husband spent 3 nights here on a trip to Western Ireland. We loved Cloch na Scith. What a treat to stay in a historical Thatched Cottage. Nancy greeted us with tea/coffee and a freshly baked apple tart. Our rooms were big and very comfortable with lovely linens and immaculately clean. My sisters' room had a beautiful view of Galway Bay, so, ask for that room if you can. You need to have a car for this location. It is a perfect home base to tour the Aran Islands, Galway, Connemara and the Burren. We wished we'd stayed at least 2 more nights. Nancy gave us a lovely breakfast each morning starting with freshly baked scones, fresh fruits and cereals and on to something hot. Nancy has self-catering cottages as well that look just as lovely.

“Best Scones Ever!!”

We stayed here on a stopover to see Galway and head through. The thatched cottage was excellent! The beds and pillows were the best we'd had in Ireland and the peat fire made the cottage feel our own little piece of Ireland.
The scones that were made for us were the best that we have had while in the UK and Ireland. And that is comparing them to afternoon tea at Harrod's!

Cloch Na Scith is very conveniently situated for traveling to the Aran Islands. The house itself is charming. Nancy is very friendly & pleasant host: if you aren't too pressed for time, this is a good place to stay. The food was excellent.
