“lovely stay for 80th birthday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

found the other reviews a bit surprising as i found a different hotel completely. attennded an 80th birthday celebration and from check in found lovely staff had a great meal and were allowed to sit in the restaurant till late without anyone trying to move us quickly. the rooms are basic but clean comfortable and quiet . had a nice breakfast the following morning with proper food not usual buffet that has become the norm. when i was leavng the restaurant at 11am they were still taking people at that stage so well done and thanks

“Shocking”

Have to agree with previous review. Seriously lacking in customer service skills. Traveled in a group. One of the parties was actually accused (aggressively) of leaving without paying, bill had been paid earlier, and was followed out to the parking lot. This is just one of many complaints about the staff.
Lovely polite young man at desk as well as girls in the breakfast room, do not want to tarnish these with same brush. It seems its those in charge that need to learn some lessons in customer service.

After conducting an extensive review of this report. We feel that this situation has been exaggerated.
This situation would not have occured if the guests in question had come to the front desk to check out before midday or come to explain that they their bill had been paid for by Parents earlier that morning. If they had come to the desk to acknowledge that they were checking out at 12.30pm rather than just departing hotel, perhaps the recepionist on duty would not have had to question their payment.
The receptioist explained in detail as to why these guests were asked about payment and explained & apoligised for any inconvience caused at the time of this incident.
Customers & Guests of The Merriman Hotel are always treated with courtesy & respect, It is our core principal.

“What a shambles- is there anyone in charge?”

We arrived at the hotel in question and tried to check in. The reception desk was deserted. I had to go to the bar to find someone who could check us in.

I had been told by email that our price included B&B and one main meal in the bar. There was great confusion as to what they thought we had booked and after a number of phonecalls it was agreed that we were indeed not liars!

We had our meal and the price of the mains were deducted. Then at checkout we were confronted and told that we would have to pay for the mains after all! Customer service has apparently not reached this hotel!

Since the rooms are VERY average as well, I strongly recommend that anyone considering staying here steers well clear!

“Good stay with no complaints”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

We stayed at the Merriman and overall found the hotel to be well run with the rooms comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly & helpful and we found little to complain about. The hotel is in the centre of Kinvarra close to a number of pubs & restaurants. The hotel offers good value and the breakfast while slighty limited in choice will set you up for the day. The Irish themed bar has a good bar food selection and serves some fine guiness.
The hotel is a small estalishment, but overall it offers value and comfort which can sometimes be lacking in the larger establishments. Enjoy.

“Nothing fancy, helpful staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2009

I stayed one night in August 2009. The room was clean and adequate, but otherwise nothing special. The staff at the front desk was very helpful as I was working on an automobile issue. The parking lot is somewhat small. The restaurant/bar was busy. I ate there and classified my plate as average.
