Quaint old hotel in a fabulous remote location. The howling gales took out the electricity but they are used to it and have back-up generators. Food in restaurant is fantastic, you could live forever on the Connemara lamb and all the fish dishes. Older teenagers enjoyed the snooker room and of course the ever necessary wifi access. Being allowed the dog is what attracted us. The only criticism I would have is that the beds are a bit small and a bit old style springy by today's standards.

We had an unforgettable weekend in Renvyle in November and I can safely say that it was the most relaxing weekend that we have spent with the children - like - ever! From the moment we were greeted at the front door where the peat fires were blazing, to the fabulous food (better than many a fine dining restaurant in Dublin) and the great craic before and after dinner, it was wonderful. The staff, especially Ronnie the manager, were friendly and helpful and found us a family room which was spacious, clean and had the benefit of a door between our room and the children's. The bunk beds were large enough to snuggle in beside the children to read them a story.

Renvyle is in a glorious location, surrounded by sea and mountains and the drive across the country roads from Galway is quite amazing. Nearby Letterfrack has a nice pub and a good supermarket.

We will be back later in the year and I am looking forward to it already.

We stayed in the Renvyle House Hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of December. It was the most perfect experience! From the beginning, the warm welcoming fires in the lobby helped us to immediately unwind following a 2 and a half hour journey with 3 very restless kids.

The setting is sublime – and as my brother (who stayed there this time last year) had told me: it’s a place where you want the weather to be cold and wintry so that you can go for your energizing walk and come back and get ready for your delicious evening meal.

The staff were faultless – friendly yet discreet. The food was both copious and delicious. The setting was like a fairy-tale with mountain backdrops and a wild sea crashing against the rocks. The bedrooms we stayed in were large, exceptionally clean and the bathroom was tiled in what seemed like Connemara marble. The shower was amazingly powerful.

Our children loved it – they especially loved playing croquet and feeding the ducks (a very kind staff member filled a bag of bread to give to them)

I haven’t stopped raving about the Renvyle House Hotel since our return … and I was so surprised to learn of the amount of family and friends who had stayed there already and couldn’t wait to return. It is a well-guarded secret.
