“Great hostel, excellent base for exploring Inis Mór”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

Stayed at the Kilronan Hostel with a friend for two nights in August.

The hostel is located adjacent to the main ferry port and has spectacular views of Galway bay. Kilronan is a small village and all of the amenities are located with-in a 3/4 minute walk of the hostel.

The hostel is clean, rooms are functional and comfortable. The Irish manager and other staff were helpful and friendly. We had our own 4-bed dorm the first night and shared with two Americans the next night, all the guests at the hostel were friendly and welcoming.

Basic continental breakfast (tea/coffee, toast & cereal) was included in the price. Full Irish breakfasts are available from a number of cafés in the village. The hostel kitchen provides full facilities for cooking food which may be purchased from the local Spar supermarket.

The hostel is a great base for exploring the island by bike or on foot. We rented two bikes through the hostel for €10 each and were able to keep them overnight. The black fort is well worth a visit, we cycled there taking a packed lunch, the views are spectacular and due the location there were very few people around. We then cycled to Dun Aengus which is amazing.

Night life on the island is very lively, there’s a pub attached to the hostel that serves great Guinness. Tí Joe Watty is also worth a visit, but do ask around to see what’s on, usually one or another pub has a live music.

This was our first visit to the Aran Islands, we were both very impressed with the welcome, amenities and atmosphere. Will definitely be back and would stay at the hostel again.

Room Tip: Do ask about getting your own dorm, rates are flexible for more than one night

“We loved it and are going back this weekend - 10 months later”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

Myself and 2 friends, with our 8 combined offspring of mostly teenage sons, spent a fabulous 2 nights at Kilronan Hostel last summer. So much so that we had to promise the kids that we'd come back again, and we're heading off this weekend - 25th June 2011, but for an extended 3 night stay this time.
After an initial mix-up with the rooms over the phone, Dave and all the staff were most charming and helpful - Dave even came to our rescue when we were going to be charged for losing one of the 11 bikes we had hired (it wasn't lost, but we had returned the bikes in dribs and drabs and the owner had got confused!).
None of us had stayed at a hostel in over 20 years, so weren't sure what to expect. The very reasonable rate included breakfast, so when we got up the first morning, we could almost smell the sizzling bacon and sausages.......imagine our surprise when we realized it was help yourself to tea and toast in the kitchen!!! But this was our mistake, and we soon got into the swing of hostel life, and absolutely loved it.
A few days after our return my son realized he had left his small MP3 player under the mattress of the bed he was using. I rang about it but wasn't hopeful....... but it was still there and sent back to me that same day.
Overall a lovely place to spend a few days - clean, bright, friendly, great vibe, Dave is a great host, made us feel really at home. We're all really looking forward to going back.

“Girls Weekend Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2011

Four of us stayed here from Friday to Sunday. We got a friendly welcome from everyone in the area! Our room was 'cozy' but perfect for a weekend away. We had our own bathroom which was clean. The location was ideal, right next to a pub, across from Supermac's, around the corner from Spar and above the bike rental shop! There is a large kitchen/dining area with every facility for tea, coffee, breakfast, cooking facilities including milk, bread, salt pepper etc. A sitting room with plasma tv, sky digital, internet and loads of up to date dvds and books!
I highly recommend this hostel for a cheap and cheerful get away with a group of friends!

“Fantastic weekend in a great location, already planning our next visit.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

Just home from an amazing weekend on Inis Mór. Kilronan hostel is the ideal place to stay. It's central to pubs, shops & restaurants. Only a few minutes walk from the pier and the beach is virtually on your doorstep. Dave the owner couldnt have been more hospitable. The dorm rooms were comfy & clean. The kitchen was well equipped & spotless. The local people were welcoming and friendly. The scenery is breath taking. Overall a fantastic experience.
