“The Worst”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2008

This place was filthy. There were used cups in the room, the electric pot for heating water was disgusting, the floor was grungy, the bed's mattress was so bad that I had a painful, sleepless night. Another couple in the breakfast room said the same. Bathroom was dark and tiny with NO water pressure, nor was there a hook or rack to put anything on. These folks have been in business a long time, apparently, and I think they have completely lost interest. In fact, the proprietress said as much. Breakfast was okay.

  • Liked — leaving....okay, the river was nice
  • Disliked — everything.....just awful

Don't believe the 45 minute drive from Shannon airport. Read the refund policy very closely. They will take your money without providing any service.

“Quaint Village; lovely Irish Countryside; Perfect country cottage”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2007

My husband and I stayed at Shannon Cottage a few years ago, so this review is for general information not current status of this B&B. This is really the Irish countryside. Green fields, beautiful landscape and EXTREMELY friendly people everywhere. Shannon Cottage is a small B&B. I do know that the owners are still there today, so I am sure it is still the same. Friendly and helpful for suggestions on day trips. Wonderful breakfasts. The best scones we've ever had in our lives! I got the recipe and lost it and sent an email and Anne sent it to me, so they are just great. Rooms are spacious in general, but don't expect anything fancy. This is a nice, clean and typical cottage style residence. Very homey. But if you are used to staying in B&B's, then you will LOVE this cottage! The local village is just what you expect to find in Ireland. The local pub is wonderful. Just a few steps from the cottage. There is a beautiful river running through/by the village...it is so picturesque. Roads are very narrow (typical of the countryside in Ireland). You will need to go to surrounding cities to eat dinner, but that's half the fun of it. Castles galore surround this area. We are planning on going back this year and hope to be able to stay again at Shannon Cottage. Anne and her husband are wonderful people.

  • Liked — Friendly Innkeepers, Wonderful Breakfast, Beautiful countryside
  • Disliked — The bathrooms could have been larger, but this is typical of Europe, so we didn't mind really
  • Tips/Secrets — Get a good rental car; dependable
