“Not our favorite in the area. Needs a lot of work”
We booked a room here using Wyndham rewards points. It was close to the places we wanted to go, and we knew about where it was. We had looked around the outside on previous jaunts up to the area, and it seemed like the best choice for redeeming our points.
Check-in went fairly smoothly, the desk person was very nice, although, despite having a 2:00 PM check in time posted, she was not sure they had a room ready. She checked, and they did, so we checked in. We went to the room, and found it to be nice, albeit very worn, and suffused with the odor of room de-odorizer. It was so thick, you could feel it on the roof of your mouth. The room was not bad, a microwave and fridge are provided, and the bathroom, although not very clean, was adequate. The towels were at one time white, but now were stained and an indeterminate color.
We changed into swimsuits, and went down for a dip, the pool was refreshing, but due to the recent hot weather, it was more like a very warm bath. The pool is much smaller then one would think from the pictures posted on the website, I am guessing it is 18' X 30' , if that. Overall, the pool was definitely worth it, despite the temps!
We did a bed inspection, and found he sheets to be clean, etc, but the box spring was exposed as the comforter was drawn back- no cover sheet on it, or larger deep pocket sheet put over both mattresses. The bed support appeared to have been made out of rough cut wood, kind of a rustic look for a motel.
The upholstered chair and ottoman in the room had numerous stains on them, and neither of us would sit in it.
In the bathroom, the granite shower walls had been installed without benefit of caulking at the bottom, and water had wicked up, mildewed, and was working it's way THROUGH the granite (which is porous). Eventually, the granite will be ruined and have to be removed. Folks with an aversion to, or sensitive to molds and mildews had best avoid this place entirely.
On our way back from the "continental breakfast" ( I don't know what continent it was trying to represent- it was not North America), our keys both would not work, and i had to trudge down to the front desk to get them re-formatted.While this is no big thing, it is representative of how the whole place feels. The breakfast itself was pretty disappointing- all empty carbs, and no proteins. Not much in the way of fresh stuff, mainly stale cereals, and a few bagels, and donuts. The waffle machine DID work well, although those of us who can't have milk had few choices. Coffee was more like dark brown water...I don't know who made it, but they were awful stingy with the coffee!
All in all? not a property we'll likely visit again, unless there is nothing else close.
