i recentally stayed at this hotel, i over heard the workers sayin it was invested in bed bugs, didnt really believe it until i noticed an bug extermatior there and he was sprayin all the rooms. i kindly asked one young maintnance guy if the story was true and he acted as if he didnt want to say anything until i told him what i heard. then he admitted that yes we are trin to get rid of them, but they are just to bad. and was worried that they were in Quality in also so they sprayed that motel too. he said that they have had them for a very long time. i will never walk into that motel again!

“An overall pleasant place in such a small city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

Stayed here for one night for the world's longest yard sale. Was satisfied at how close to the 40 interstate it is located; upon exiting, I noted the different place nearby to eat, including shoney's, a mexican eatery, McDonald's, Krystal's, to name a few; gas stations are also near. Pulled in and noted that although crowded, the exterior and parking lot were clean and well kept; staff was pleasant and lobby nice; parking is in the back and after the sun set and I took a quick stroll I noticed that the parking lost was a bit too dark for my liking but the corridors were lit well enough; exterior corridors were kept clean and clutter free; pool and area was also very clean; water was warm and when nightfall approached, the area and the pool itself was adequately lit; the room we stayed in had two queen beds and was non-smoking; it was a very nice room; beds were comfortable and appeared to be new; no odors or dust was noted with the exception of the A/C unit, which was very dusty behind the slats; bathroom had ample room for our needs; room needs minor touch ups, but such things are expected, whether the place mentioned is an apartment, house, etc. Our room had an adjoining room and we did not hear any noise; I believe ppl stayed above us and if so, were quiet. Pets are allowed in this hotel and although I did not note any 'pet" related issues in my room, it never hurts to ask any place that houses pets what their "clean up" process is. I did not look to see if this hotel had an exercise room. Wi-Fi internet was free and ample enough for my use; continental breakfast is served and the staff is very helpful and accomodating; biscuit and gravy was tolerable and the option of making waffles is good; all other choices are what is typically served for continental breakfast. The only con to this hotel and it is a minor one to me is the fact that across the street is a RR track and througout the night trains travel on it. I did not hear train whistles but if you are a light sleeper or used to absolute quiet at night, you may have a bit of a problem adapting to the rhythm of a train(I finally fell asleep after hearing it several times and once asleep I remained so). Overall, this hotel was satisfactory to me and my family and I would definently consider this place again if needing to stay in/around the area.

Room Tip: If you absolutely do not want to hear the sound of a train, ask for a room that faces the parking lo...

“American Owned Gem - would recommend to my own mother”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

Don't know why I haven't written a review for this hotel before, well other than laziness and I only started using trip advisor in the past year or so. I LOVE this hotel. Yes, there are train tracks on the opposite side of the highway -- but that's true of every hotel in Harriman and I only really hear it if I'm outside smoking a cigarette. Plus it doesn't blow its whistle as it passes so just a sweet, gentle chug chug for a few minutes, at least from this hotel. Some of the complaints I see below appear either overly picky or completely invalid. I have spent at least one full week a year -- and two full weeks some years -- every year for the past 5 years at this hotel. There is no other hotel I would stay at within 30 miles if given a choice. That would be the voice of experience. Tried another 6 miles up the road for 2 weeks 2 years apart -- 1 week each time. The other hotel got worse each time. Just couldn't face it this time so I drove the extra miles to stay at Quality Inn Harriman. So glad I did!

Having spent so much time at this hotel, I have come to know the owner, the staff, and a few of the regular guests. And yes, the same hometown gentleman owns both the Quality and the Rodeway next door. They share a front desk and there is a sign. That's not big deal, just smart business. I've only stayed in the Quality Inn, but I would stay in the Rodeway if all the rooms were full at the Quality. I've never had a bad experience at this hotel. Ever.

On one visit a couple of years back, I got a room that the toilet kept running. I noticed it at 7 or 8 p.m. Instead of having to try to fix it myself, change rooms, or put up with it until the next day, the maintenance man was at my door in a flash. He fixed the problem, which was minor, and we even chatted a bit. His name is Stanley. He's been there for years. With maybe one or two exceptions, all of the staff has been there forever. That in itself speaks highly of the owner/management. He's the type guy that when he upgraded, he went a step above what is required by Quality to fly its flag. Bedding is a DREAM. The pillow top mattresses are Hampton quality. Biggest problem with my recent stay was I had trouble getting out of bed on time because I was so comfy.

115 was my room last week. Spacious and very clean. Indeed, the tile and tub were so clean I remember wondering to myself if they were new. Great fridge and microwave. Iron and ironing board. Internet service flew. And I've never felt safer at any hotel than this one. Yes, some of the railroad workers stay there sometimes, but every one of them I've ever met is friendly and polite and well-mannered. Yeah, their trucks have the beepers required by federal law that kick in when they back up but it's short lived and nothing that should bother anyone and not at weird hours. Indeed, I feel safer with them around because I don't doubt for a minute that any one of them would help me at any time. The same is true of all the staff and every guest I've ever met. The owner is a sharp businessman and he keeps the riff-raff out. I've never seen the place appear dirty or unkempt. Ever.

Oh, breakfast. It's good. Better than most if not all Quality Inns. There's a waffle machine for hot waffles. Biscuits and sausage gravy. Good choice of cereals. Fresh fruit. Juice. Coffee. And more. The breakfast staff is friendly and keeps everything spotless.

In the past 5 years I've spent no less than 8 weeks at this hotel. Indeed, this past stay, I did a little extra driving to get to stay there. I was working Kingston, where I had previously stayed at what is now a Super 8. It lost it's "Choice" flag. So I drove the dozen extra round trip miles a day to stay at the Quality Inn in Harriman where I knew I would have a dream room and experience. And I was right. The fact that I get to support a rare locally American-owned gem is pure bonus.

Pet friendly and family friendly, I truly love this hotel. My dogs have other arrangements through the week because I'm working, but I enjoy getting to pet someone else's occasionally. Never been disturbed by a pet staying there. It's well-built (was originally Holdiay Inn -- not HIX) so no noise from adjacent rooms. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone I know, including my own 81 year young mother. (And just fyi - the Rodeway was the other part of the old Holiday Inn so it's well built too. New owner just split it into two properties to give travelers a choice.)

Only one more thing I want to add -- I'm checking the "quiet" box because it is very quiet except for those brief and rare moments when a truck with the federally required reverse gear beepers have to back in or out of parking spot. If you want to complain about that, write your congress critter. You can bump into that anywhere. I hear one now from the hotel I'm in a few towns away tonight -- and while I like this place I'm at tonight, it's no Quality Inn Harriman. Wish I were there right now. Visit. Get to know the place. You'll fall in love with it too.

“Baby Change in lobby on hotel furniture”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

Room was not clean had to wait. Maid tried to come into room after I checked in.( 3 or 4 times) One of the hotels front counter employee's Husband or boyfriend keep a baby in the lobby while I was checking in. When I checked out man was there with the baby again. He changed the baby's diaper in the hotel lobby on a hotel chair. I thought this was very unprofessional not to mention the health issues.
