The rates and fees were at the high end of the price range for this type of facility but it turned out to be a good decision. (FYI pet people- The dog fee is $25).
We've stayed at some of the other, cheaper properties at this I-65 interchange in the past. But each of those other properties had one issue or another-- as in too many dodgy-looking people loitering about or that the hotels were downright seedy. So we decided to spend more and stay at the HI Express. Being able to sleep without fear of a robbery or bedbugs made it a wise investment.
The exterior looks a bit worn, but that was deceiving. Our room had been recently remodeled and it was superb-- for a hotel just off the interstate. All new furnishings, a flat screen TV and a decor that didn't look too much like hotel decor. The Internet connection was quick enough. OK work space. Typical room size. Firm beds with great pillows.
Sadly, at check-in, I got stuck behind a young woman who acted as though this was the first hotel room she had ever rented and, of course, all of her credit cards were declined. But that's not the hotel's fault. The clerk was patient and did his best to work with her. The clerk got me checked in quick enough once he got to me. And the hotel had set aside a room meeting our special request.
The only criticism I have is that the breakfast bar was average. The "healthy" and "diet-friendly" selections were non-existent. But we had plans to eat breakfast elsewhere and so that didn't disappoint us. That particular interchange doesn't have many non-fast food dining options, but there are alot of fast food choices.
