On April 25, 2009 my husband and I were returning home to North Carolina from a long and tiring trip. We were scheduled to stay in Knoxville, but decided to chance the Holiday Inn Express last minute due to fatigue. At first I thought, how lucky and brand NEW hotel. We were greeted by the most wonderful staff I have met in 40 years of traveling and guess what they serve hot, soft, great big delicious cookies at the front check in counter for guests....even at 8 o'clock in the evening. The atmosphere here is very warm, kind, comforting and super, super CLEAN! The brass on the luggage carts were so shinny and not a hand print anywhere. The young girl at the front desk immediately asked us if we had any discounts and mentioned AARP, which we had. Normally we have to ask for a discount, but the staff here really make you feel like they are really there for the guest! We were also informed of the Continental Breakfast from 6-9 in the morning. I inquired as to how many pillows were on the bed and she replied three(3), I asked for an additional two and an extra towel for my long hair. She replied that she would bring them right up and she did. She was thoughtful in bringing me two "firm" pillows that I really needed. This room, I tell you, I was amazed in the cleanliness. Not a water spot anywhere, not a speck of dust anywhere, everything just gleamed and shined! Lots of amenities, mirrored closet doors, airconditioner that was very quiet. Bath towels were the thick, oversized ones, just like new. The carpets were spotless and the room had that real clean smell. The bed was turned down and the sheets felt like 1000 count ones and soft as can be. The bath tub was not deep but very wide and was great for a bubble bath. The tub walls, I could see my reflection like it had been highly polished. The sink offered a seperate filtered water spout for drinking water and coffee.
The mattress was wonderful and this was the first time in a long time that I felt very rested in the morning.
They had HBO channels, internet wireless connections, a desk to work on and a comfortable chair w/ ottoman and table w/ coffee maker for those of us who like to read at night. When we left the room, I asked the maid who was cleaning the next room if I could have one of their bottles of shampoo and she replied "Help yourself to anything I have here", so very pleasant personnel.
Normally we don't do a Continental Breakfast because most of them just offer coffee and danish, BUT look out people, this Holiday Inn Express offered, two kinds of milk, fruit juices, cereal, oatmeal, omlettes, sausage, bagels, numerous "hot" danish, several kinds of coffee. Outstanding! Upon our checking out, I asked when the hotel had opened and the reply was "Nine" (9) years ago. I could not believe it. The young lady thanked me for my compliments and said that the staff there take great pride in their hotel and work hard at keeping it looking new. Wonderful, Wonderful stay at this hotel! Also great rates! Other Holiday Inn Express need to take a look at this one - 5 STARS here!
