“Choo-Choo has character, but not service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We stayed at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo hotel for a Valentine's weekend getaway, but Would not recommend it to others. We were not able to book a train car room, so your experience might be different if you were in a train car. We were in Building 3 which was the farthest from the lobby and restaurants. The room was dated with blemishes in the wall and furniture, but clean. After spending the afternoon roaming around downtown, we came back to find our room had not been cleaned up. We called the front desk and they said they would send someone to tidy up and bring fresh towels while we were out to dinner. We got back around 11 PM and the room had still not been cleaned up. At this point, we just let it go as we were in for the night. The next morning, we woke to find no hot water for showers. When we called to report the front desk replied in was a known issue and they were working on it, but no idea how long it would take. We tried again 30 minutes later but still cold, so we just decided it was time to head out.

The Choo-Choo is definitely worth visiting to see, but highly recommend the Marriott up the street to lay your head.

I regret to hear that our service was disappointing during your visit. I am researching the issue that you had with requesting your room to be serviced. That shouldn’t have happened and I am sorry. I was MOD that morning. We did have a temporary problem with our boiler. It was repaired in less than an hour but it was during an inconvenient time. Unfortunately, we can’t always predict when those types of problems will occur but I do apologize. I feel assured that both issues were isolated and that your next visit will be much better. We hope that you will stay with us again while visiting Chattanooga.

Jill Ellis

“Unimpressed....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I spent two nights in this hotel just recently, and can honestly say that I would not recommend it as a lodging destination. The historic aspect is obviously the draw, however, it would be a much better use of time/money to set aside an hour during your trip to go explore the grounds, instead of staying in a room. The price/quality ratio is unacceptable. The rooms are dingy, to say the least- sparse, and not well maintained. For the price you pay, I was expecting the rooms to have modern updates/amenities, while maintaining the historic 'charm' that is present on the rest of the grounds. Not so. The hallway carpet was soaked and sour smelling, the security door on our building wouldn't even shut, much less lock, the smoke detectors in the room appeared to be from the 1970's and the furniture was shoddy and not well maintained. The cleaning staff only replenished a few of the sparse amenities, and did a poor job picking up the room. The hot water took between 5-10 minutes to heat up in the shower (the outside temp was in the 60's), and the electrical outlets were loose and crooked. Numerous small things like this led me to being disappointed overall.
The grounds are nice, the staff seemed courteous and it is a charming property to walk around and explore for an hour- however, I would not recommend staying in the hotel. I was given a discounted 'group rate' as we were there with a team, and was still highly disappointed. I can't imagine paying the full price of over $100/night...

I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations. We work very hard to maintain our property. We spend $850,000 dollars a year on maintenance and landscaping.
We have, and continue, to spend money updating our property. We have just completed installing new carpet, wall treatment and bedding in 97 guest rooms. We are installing new corridor wall treatment as we speak and new carpet the 1st of April. Although we are not the newest hotel in town, we do take pride in maintaining a clean and comfortable stay. We have thousands of overnight guests and visitors who travel through our hotel every year. I would welcome a conversation with you. I will send you an email via tripadvisor.

“Unique hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stopped here for 3nights during a 10 day stay in Tennesse. The hotel was easy to find and easily accessible. There is a free shuttle from the hotel to downtown. The hotel itself is very big, and is also more than 1 hotel. Some hotels are train carriages and then there is hotel 2 and 3. I was in hotel 3 which was good sized rooms just a long walk to reception. There was an outdoor pool and a jacuzzi, which in the summer months would be very good to Hang out in.
My issue with the hotel was that in the 3 nights I was there, the cleaners didn't once clean my room, I'm not sure why, but I was out of the room all day as of 11:00 but they never came. There were several restaurants in the hotel and a games room for the yonger crowd. I would stop here again but not rush back. I booked via hotwire and it cost me £40 a night so the cost of the room was decent.

Room Tip: Make sure they clean your room

Thank you for your comments. I am very sorry that you didn't get your room cleaned during your last visit. I would really like to know what room you were in so I could research the problem more effectively. I have spoken to the Executive Housekeeper and she doesn't remember any reason why this would happen. Maybe a DND sign on the door? I would really like to speak with you about this issue. I will email you via tripadvisor..

“Choo Choo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The only downfall, to this unique place, was the musty smell in the lobby. Lobby decor was wonderful, a converted train station with older stylish items. Room was neat and clean. Pools, although we didn't get a chance to use them, appeared to be very clean. Some of the old train tracks and cars are still on site. Excellent courtyard landscape and little shops on site add to the uniqueness of this place. You could easily spend a day exploring what is on site. Friends also took advantage of the free and convenient train shuttle to and from the airport and to go shopping!

“Wonderful Stay at the Choo Choo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Everything about this hotel was great. The room was spacious and very clean, plus kept that way. My compliments to the entire staff. We ate in the main restaurant plus we did the Diner in the Diner. We were dress in Victorian clothes for the Diner car. The service and the food were excellent. Best steak I have had in years. The only thing that would have been better would be the car to be "moving" (track sounds and a gentle sway). We both loved it.
On our next trip we plan to stay in one of the rail cars. That should be a great experience. Again my compliments to the entire staff for an excellent experience.

Room Tip: Explain what you want, the staff will find it for you.
