“Pets allowed inside”

First of all the home is decorated really nice and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small and older but usable. Ellen is a great host and has the perfect personality for a B&B owner. She makes you feel at home and comfortable in her home. The breakfasts were fantastic! We had stuffed French toast, Egg Stratas, Ham & cheese omelets, and various fruits each morning with bacon, ham, and sausage as well. The rates were very reasonable as well. The only down side is that she has 4 cats and a dog that she allows inside the home. There was also another dog that didn't belong to her that was allowed to come inside. She is obviously an animal lover. I am allergic to cats so I had to take antihistamines while I was there, but mostly we were gone exploring. We came into the dining area after breakfast one morning to see if we could get some ice and the long haired cat was laying on the table where we had just had breakfast. I also had a big wad of cat hair on my shoulder after sitting in one of the chairs in this room. I enjoyed my stay and Ellen very much and she is a really nice lady, but I felt that I should include this in the review so that anyone who is not an animal lover would be aware before they book here. Since I am so allergic to cats, I would not have booked here had I known in advance. I didn't mention it to Ellen because it is her home and I didn't want to offend her. Overall if you don't mind cats this is a great place to stay.

“Nicer rooms than website shows!”

The pictures on their website are nice, but it was a pleasant surprise to actually go there and see their two rooms, both of which looked much better than the website photos indicated.

Ellen is an excellent hostess who really understands how to run a successful B&B. There were lots of little luxury lotions and shampoos in the bathrooms, a TV/VCR with a decent selection of movies, plenty of magazines (but few books that we saw), super-soft towels and linens, a fireplace and very comfortable king-size beds. We stayed in the Helen Suite, which is the larger of the two rooms - it was our anniversary - and found fresh flowers waiting for us, as well as a nice wine and cheese basket that we had requested (for the $10 it cost, it was a bargain, and that evening, Ellen brought out some very tasty fresh brownies and whipped cream to make our anniversary even more memorable). It was a perfect place to spend a special occasion, and the view from our window, overlooking the hill just across the street and a wide dale (a very pastoral scene), was really pretty. We had a great view of watching the moonrise above the trees there. The room was quite large, with a sitting, dining and sleeping areas, as well as an en suite bathroom. The other room was slightly smaller but still very nice, with a bathroom just around the corner in the hallway. There is a very small garden and hot tub that didn't look as if it had been well maintained, but the house itself was very attractive in every way.

For breakfast, we were served upside-down eggs (delicious deviled eggs topped with a little slice of ham), stuffed French toast with real maple syrup, a nice selection of fresh fruit, freshly baked biscuits, juice and coffee. It was all very well prepared and served promptly, which is good since we were heading out to a rafting trip that morning as soon as we left there. Oh - and there were some fresh chocolate chip cookies and a coffee maker in the hall next to our room in case we needed coffee before breakfast was served - a nice touch.

It's in a very rural location and you really do need to follow the directions well to get there. Ellen says that Google maps will take you a very long way around, but the website has clear directions and we had no problems finding the place. There are no signs for it anywhere. If you're in the area for rafting the Ocoee, it's about a thirty minute drive from the Pinhook. It's about a fifteen minute drive to some pretty decent restaurants, as well. All in all, it's a nice place and we'd happily recommend it to others.
