It has been nice to see over the last few years ownership/managment putting money and TLC back into the building. This might just be the best super 8 in the whole company. My kids really love the attractable roof, which I think is pretty cool too. We will be back!

A buddy and I stopped here after our disastrous stop at the HJ Express up the street. We were checking it out to see if it was suitable for our needs when we come back for the Sturgis Rally in August.


The hotel was in an industrial park in a run-down part of town. The hotel seemed to have plenty of parking for a trailer. Although we didn't have a reservation here, they gave us a decent price.


The hotel was okay, but had some serious shortcomings. First, the hotel needs to be updated. The carpet in our room was coming up in spots, and had some unknown stains. Also, the room walls were paper thin and we could hear the housekeepers complaining the next morning in the hallway about another room. Second, the shower didn't have sufficient hot water for both of us to take a shower, despite the hotel being half full. There were lipstick stains on the pillow cases, which made us wonder if the sheets were fresh. We were tired, so stayed here anyways.


Breakfast was okay, nothing special. This hotel wants quite a bit of money for August, and unless they can give customers better rooms, we won't be back.

As another reviewer said, this is a step above the usual Super 8 motel. The rooms circle the nice indoor pool, giving it more of a large hotel feel. The free breakfast was good (if not huge on variety), everything was clean, the price was decent, and the location is great (near Spearfish Canyon and not far from Deadwood and Lead - or Rapid City for that matter via the interstate). Good base to explore the area and Devil's Tower. You can't go wrong staying here if you are planning a few days in the area.

The Super 8 in Spearfish is quite nice, a step above the usual Super 8. The main difference is the very attractive indoor pool area. All of the rooms surround it, and it gives you the feeling you're staying in a more upscale place than a Super 8. We didn't use the pool, but if you have a family with children, it would be perfect. I was a bit concerned about pool noise drifting into the room. But we didn't hear any pool noise at all.

The room itself is good sized, with typical motel furniture. A nice feature was a comfortable recliner. There was also a table with 2 chairs, and a desk. Plus a microwave and fridge. Quite a few room ammenities. The air conditioner worked good, and was set into the wall alongside the window, rather than under it. I much better place for it, in my opinion. The free internet worked great too.

The breakfast room was on the small side. Given that this is a large 3 story motel, it could have been a bit bigger. But it had a decent selection of items, including waffles, hard boiled eggs, 2 types of cereal, toast, bagels and fruit.

The location is a bit odd. It is down a side street in a light industry area. But it felt safe, and is less than a minute from the freeway exit. Follow the signs, and it's a breeze to get to. We just used it for an overnight stop, and it suited us fine.
