I had the unfortunate luck of being stuck in Pierre after experiencing an accidental fracture of my femur. After my short stint in the hospital, my wife and I decided to stay at the Ramkota in Pierre. At first glance, the hotel does not ooze class. It is a little dated and needs some TLC, but the staff more than makes up for the shortcomings of the hotel.
Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay here a great one. We took the local bus to get from the hospital to the hotel. On the way, my wife asked the driver if he could make an unexpected stop at the drug store so she could take my prescription in. Not only did he pull over and let her off, he waited a few minutes hoping that she could get it filled and get back on. However, the process was too slow and he had to get down the road. The drug store was about about ten or twelve blocks from the hotel. When the pharmacist learned of my accident, she closed filled the prescription and then closed the pharmacy. She told my wife that there was "no way" she would let her walk back to the hotel. Instead, she gave my wife a ride in her personal vehicle back to the hotel. Unreal. Since I was on crutches, my time was mostly spent recuperating in the room. My wife was chatting with the sales director at the hotel and instantly struck up a conversation about quilting. The sales director dropped what she was doing, closed her office and told my wife to hop in her car and she would take her to the local quilt store. Once in her convertable Mustang, she took my wife to the quilt store then gave her a whirlwind tour of the capital building and surroundings of Pierre. We were both blown away by the friendliness of the staff and all of the people of Pierre. The restaurant had consistently good food and good service, and even the general manager took time out to wish me well.
If we ever get back to Pierre, we would return here. They really go out of their way to make you feel at home.
